George Thomas Preisinger
George Thomas Preisinger, age 69, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020, at his home in Rochester Hills, Michigan, after a courageous struggle with brain cancer.
George is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sarah, sisters Susan McMan (Dennis), Sally Friedlund, and Joyce Preisinger, brother Gary Preisinger (Theresa), aunt Alberta Holbrook, and numerous family members. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Elizabeth Preisinger, sister Joanne Prater (Lonnie), brother-in-law Robert Friedlund, and nephew Billy Sullivan.
George was born on August 18, 1951, in Howell, MI. He graduated from Fowlerville High School in 1969 and achieved bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Michigan University. He loved his family fiercely. He was kind, gentle, joyful, dependable, hardworking, and fun— everybody needs an Uncle George. He was the family photographer and go-to tech guy. When George visited family or friends, he always brought his toolbox because his fix-it skills were legendary.
George golfed every chance he got, and his favorite courses were Oakland University’s Sharf and Katke-Cousins where he scored four holes-in-one. His final hole-in-one came during his radiation treatments. When he wasn’t on the links, he was dedicated to friends old and new. He helped people with golf tips, home repairs, and is well-known for his many hijinks.
For 39 years, George was a lead problem solver at Oakland University where he was the Assistant VP of Instructional Technology Services. Faculty and staff could always depend on George to think outside the box and come up with a creative solution for any need. Most exceptionally, his positivity was infectious and made everyone in the workplace want to do and be better.
“He played a crucial role in bringing OU to its current level of success,” said OU President Dr. Pescovitz. “His work will always be remembered.”
Visitation is being held Sunday, September 13, from 3:00-8:00 P.M. at Potere-Modetz Funeral Home in Rochester, MI. A funeral Mass will be prayed on Monday, September 14, at noon at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rochester. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George's life. He will be interred at a later date at Plainfield Village Cemetery in Gregory, MI.
