Rebecca Jean Diederich

Rebecca "Becky" Jean (Bentley) Diederich, the light of so many lives, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2021 surrounded by her beloved "peeps".

Becky was born on May 31, 1967 in Lansing to Dennis and Roxanna (Wright) Bentley. She always knew that her calling was to be an amazing mom; first to her two children and then as a caregiver for many children in the neighborhood through her home daycare. Later, Becky, her husband Darrin, and Darrin's family founded Diederich's Produce Market north of Webberville.

Becky lived each day as a blessing. She loved meeting people and helping them, and she had a gift for seeking out, befriending, and lifting up others. She created special bonds with so many, and built close, unique relationships with everyone she met. Becky was an amazing youthful spark that could light up anyone's day. She never let anyone forget about how special they were or how beautiful. She lived to love those around her.

If you had visited her at her old farmhouse, you would have been met at the door with the smell of home cooking, a hug, and a smile that made you feel like you were the most important person on earth. You most likely would have received a comment on how beautiful you were or how happy she was to see you. And when it came time for you to leave, she made sure you left with a tight hug, tears of laughter on your cheeks, bellies full of home cooked food and even a little to take home.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Roxanna, her mother-in-law, Sharon Diederich; and her brother-in-law, Rodney Diederich.

Her brilliant and vibrant memory lives on in the hearts of her husband of 34 years, Darrin Diederich; her children, Jaymie (Alexander) and Dylan (fiancée Mary); her grandchildren, Oliver, Braxton, and Rowena; her father-in-law, Raymond (Denise) Diederich; her brothers, Dennis (Laurie) Bentley Jr. and Donald (Diana) Bentley; her siblings-in-law, R. Scott (Shelley) Diederich, Julie (Bob Ratliff) Hartwell, Matthew (Emily) Diederich; and her nieces and nephews, Jaycie, Sabrina, Zachary, Jina, Jorja, Shay, William, Caroline, and Danielle. She was also a two-time Godmother.

She held all her children, nieces and nephews, and grandbabies so close to her heart, she herself was an energetic child so full of life despite how much life her body had fought to hold onto over her lifetime.

Becky was a two-time kidney transplant recipient, and she used her experiences with transplants to encourage others facing similar obstacles in their lives. She had her first kidney transplant successfully at the age of 20 as a newlywed. For the next 19 years, she was blessed with two healthy children; children she had been told she could never have. They were her world and she made sure that in this second chance at life, she would cherish every moment she had with her babies.

Her body went into renal failure for the second time and this time, God had brought a generous soul into her life to be a kidney donor, giving her a third chance at life and the ability to one day see both her children graduate. Not only did she accomplish that, but she was able to be alive during the birth of her grandchildren; grandchildren she only hoped and prayed she would live long enough to meet.

Becky could not have been more grateful for her time on earth and she never failed in telling her story and the lesson behind it—to not take those you love for granted to those who would listen. She was an amazing human being and a beacon of pure love, joy, and comfort. If you had ever once been in her presence, you knew you had been in the presence of an angel on earth.

A Celebration of Becky's Life will be held on October 23rd from 2 to 6pm at the place she loved the most—her faded farmhouse.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.

 Daniel Paul Eckert

Daniel Paul Eckert, 61, of Fowlerville, passed away Friday on October 8, 2021 and is now with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born December 18, 1959 to William and Joan Eckert.

He started many business endeavors and enjoyed living life to its fullest. Whether it was traveling across the country, flying airplanes, cruising to exotic places or letting the wind blow his hair riding his Harley, he enjoyed the world God created. He was able to do these things because he worked tirelessly in his shop that he built, starting from a basement and was not afraid to put his kids to work and help. He was a man of God, with many talents. He lived a life of service. Any chance he was given, he would remind all seven of his children that the Lord's love has no bounds, have faith, and put your trust in God.

He is survived by his 7 children, 16 grandkids, and numerous other children he fostered, his wife, 2 siblings, many nieces and nephews and his beloved pets. He will truly be loved and missed by all who knew him. Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 12, from 11 am. to noon at the Fowlerville United Brethren Church, with a Celebrtion of Life service held at noon. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements by Herrmann Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com

Monroe in Webberville, Michigan.

Carl was a life-long Webberville resident. For the first half of his life, he was a farmer then later he became a master electrician and owned his own business. He enjoyed time with his family: camping, fishing and was proud of all their accomplishments. He loved feeding the fish at his pond, mowing his lawn, and playing with his black labs. He was an avid music and nature lover. Carl also had a passion for photography and shared that passion with his children. He and Carole traveled all over the United States on motorcycles and in their RV. Their travelogue adventure riding motorcycles to Alaska in the 1980’s was well-known. He was a member of the Millville United Methodist Church. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carole J. Oesterle, and four children, Carl Oesterle, Jr. of Mason, Cheryl (Mark) Brooks of Dansville, Charissa (Steve) Townsend of Jenison, and Charlene (Ted) Sinnaeve of Dansville; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ann Nims and Paul Oesterle.

Funeral Services were held on Friday, October 15, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at the Millville United Methodist Church, Stockbridge, MI. Visitation took place at the church on Thursday, October 14, 2021, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., as well as Friday 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial was at Alchin Cemetery in Webberville. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Carl’s name may do so to the Millville United Methodist Church or to Fresenius Kidney Care https://www.freseniuskidneycare.com. Arrangements by Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge.

Torch 180 kicks off Online Auction this Friday, Oct. 15

Torch 180 is excited to announce their 2021 Online Auction, which will be kicking off LIVE on Facebook (Facebook.com/torch180) at 2pm this Friday, October 15.

From jewelry to gift cards to home décor and resort memberships and more, this online auction has something for everyone.

“We are excited about this auction,” said Rhonda Callahan, Torch 180 president. “It is the first big fundraising event we have been able to hold since COVID changed everything in 2020. The program we offer is one-of-a-kind, and life-changing for our students and, often for our volunteers and other employees.

“These funds will all be used to keep the building operational and to provide materials that are essential to the training of the students,” Callahan said. “We are also thankful to all the amazing organizations and individuals who have donated items to this great cause.”

WHEN: Tune in to Facebook/torch180 on October 15th at 2pm to get in on the bidding right away.

ABOUT TORCH 180: Torch 180, based in Fowlerville, is a fully operational coffee shop and restaurant at which individuals who have disabilities are trained to prepare them for employment in the food service industry.

In 2018, Torch 180 purchased the former Fowlerville Library building, located at 131 Mill St., and began remodeling which was completed in February of 2020. Nine students then began their journey, with five more slotted to begin in June. However, in March 2020 the training had to stop due to COVID-19 mandates. Students returned off and on throughout the remainder of 2020, opening the coffee shop and restaurant for limited take-out in September.

Although 20 students have participated at some level in Torch 180 programs since February of 2020, several of them faced home and health situations which caused them to be unable to continue in the program. Additionally, Torch 180 was forced to cancel all fundraising activities throughout the rest of the year, and many new students were unable to join the program, either because they moved or have not been able to return to public work due to COVID-19.

“The 2021 Online Auction will provide funds that will be used to continue training and operating Torch 180 as we begin rebuilding our student base,” Callhan noted, adding that “Every dollar helps!”
