 Harvey Alvin Radebach

Harvey Alvin Radebach, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 10, 2022.

Harvey ‘Sonny’ Radebach was born on July 4, 1943 in Monroe, Michigan. He grew up on a family farm in Fowlerville, milking cows for the family dairy at age 5. Sonny attended primary school at the historical one-room schoolhouse, Boyd School, and graduated from Fowlerville High School.

After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army, earning an expert level marksmanship badge. He served overseas as a Military Policeman guarding the Panama Canal. Upon completion, Sonny returned to Michigan and attended college at Ferris State University, where he received a bachelor's degree. Sonny spent more than 25 years with the Stephen-Keyes Engineering firm in the field of surveying. His career brought him great joy, as he never seemed to have a bad day at work despite the weather.

Sonny was a man of simple pleasures, but he beamed with pride for his family: Jason Radebach and wife Yan-Yan, and Katrina Turner and husband Tommy, along with his three grandchildren, Caleb, Dylan, and Edison. He and his children spent summers camping, canoeing, and fishing all around the state of Michigan, which always seemed to summon a downpour. His steady demeanor during those challenging times was always apparent and appreciated, and many life lessons were taught as a result. Later in life, he traveled to Arizona frequently to visit his grown children and grandchildren. Sonny was a loving and supportive father and grandfather.

Sonny was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fly fishing and turkey hunting. With an unlimited supply of patience and determination, he taught himself to tie his own flies and perfected the art of turkey calling. Sonny was a quiet, content, humble, and intelligent man who enjoyed walks through the woods and the beauty of nature. He enjoyed passing on his knowledge through teaching and was an avid reader, particularly of Western novels.

Sonny was preceded in Heaven by his mother Vera, father Harvey, and brother Ronald. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, along with his sisters Sharon and Faye and brother Donald. Visitation was held on Thursday December 15, 2022 from 10:00 am until the service at Noon. Arrangements entrusted to Herrmann Funeral Home.
