Denise ‘Denny’ Steele
Denise ‘Denny’ Rose Marie (Rife) Steele, age 84, of Vestaburg, MI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Schnepp Senior Care Center in St. Louis after a long and courageous battle against breast cancer. Born at Highland Park General Hospital on August 10, 1938, to the late David Rife and Avadell Campbell Rife, she was the widow of Stanley ‘Jake’ Coridon Steele.
Denny is survived by four children: Jeff (Connie) Steele of Austin, TX, Cyndee (Mike) Weaver of Vestaburg, Cord (Paula) Steele of Austin, TX, and Rikki (Dave) Schuster of Outer Banks, NC; seven grandchildren: Noelle Couturier, Bruce (Kristina) Couturier, Jacob (Hayley) Weaver, Carrie (Brad) Frisbie, Katherine Schuster, Robbie and Jami Newton; brothers: George, Bud (Carol), and Mike Rife; 17 great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Denny is predeceased by her brothers, Skip Rife and Jack Rife.
Denny and Jake were high school sweethearts, graduating in 1956 from Fowlerville High School. They were married in 1957 and raised their four children in Fowlerville until moving to Vestaburg in 1980. Denny was an avid quilter, reader, and gardener. Denny’s favorite holiday was Christmas and she would spend months decorating every corner of her home for the season. Nothing made her happier than spending time with family and bragging about her grandchildren!
The family would like to thank special friends Lorna Rocker, Sue Brantley and all her OBX quilting ladies for the support and friendship to our mom during the last several years. Also, a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Schnepps.
A graveside service, honoring Denny’s memory, will be held at Richland Township Cemetery on a later date.
