Jean Anne Tomlin
Jean Anne Tomlin was born to Arthur Maynard Bird Sr. and Lois Marion (Young) Bird on November 22, 1936 and passed away surrounded by family on August 28, 2022, aged 85.
She is survived by her sister, Rebecca (Kenneth) Niblock, and her five children, Judith (Jerry) Martin, Susan (Bryon) Courter, Kathy (George) Duncan, Mary Beth (John) Bowman, and Marvin (Stacy) Tomlin Jr.; as well as 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin Rex Tomlin Sr., brother Arthur Bird Jr.; grandchild J.J. Martin; and great-grandchild Kolt Martin.
Growing up, Jean could always be found in the dairy barn helping her father with their guernsey cows—much preferring to be in the barn than in the house. She also showed cattle at the Fowlerville Fair and played the trumpet in the Howell High School band. Jean married Marvin Sr. in 1967 and together they raced harness horses and kept an active farmstead north of Fowlerville, including continuing the 4-H tradition with her kids and grandkids.
She worked at Utilex Manufacturing in Fowlerville for a number of years and went on to be a beloved school bus driver for Fowlerville Schools for 18 years before her retirement and move to Texas. When she wasn’t working on or off the farm, Jean loved to cook, play the piano, and oil paint—selling her paintings at many art fairs in the late 1970’s and 80’s. Anyone who knew Jean also knows how passionate she was about her lineage, learning as much as she could about the genealogy of her parents and recalling numerous stories told to her in her youth. Her family is proud for her to be a part of their ancestry and will continue to tell her stories for generations to come.
A celebration of life for Jean will be held at the family farm on July 8, 2023.
