Mike (Mayo) Smtih
Mike (Mayo) J. Smith was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on February 8, 2022. Beloved brother, uncle, and great friend to many. He is survived by his brothers David (WD) Smith and Fred (Connie) Smith and sister Kathy (Ray) Eason. He also was blessed with many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Howard and Florence Smith, and brothers Richard (Dick) Smith and Donald (Donny) Smith.
Mike graduated from Fowlerville Schools and became an institution with Fowlerville athletics. He was always the one person that everyone knew. He dedicated all his time to umpiring for both baseball and softball. His vast knowledge and love for baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers, is where he was given the nickname “Mayo” from the Tiger’s coach Eddie Mayo (1933-1971).
For the past 20+ years, Mike has lived in the Houghton Lake area and has once again grown another following of wonderful and close friends. No matter where Mike went, he easily made friends and was recognized in Houghton Lake by many.
He had a great sense of humor, was a prankster, a lover of music and listening to live bands, a collector of Tiger memorabilia, master peddler of antiques and such, he loved to laugh, and he was an amazing friend.
He worked at The Heights Antique Mall in Houghton Lake and loved the continued opportunity to meet new people and socialize. He loved people. Mike also loved The Lord. Mike was a blessing to everyone he met.
A Celebration of Mike’s life will be held later this summer. In Mike’s name, a memorial will be placed in the Houghton Lake/Prudenville area.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to this memorial can be sent to his sister, Kathy Eason at 9715 Chase Lake Rd. Fowlerville, MI 48836. Mike will be greatly missed by many friends and family alike.
