Leona Margaret Fraley

Leona Margaret Fraley (Miller), age 88, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2022 with her family at her side. She was born on December 4, 1933, married the love of her life Howard Fraley on January 5, 1952, to begin their wonderful journey together. Their first home was built by Howard in Taylor, Michigan on Williams Street but they wouldn’t stay there long. As their family continued to grow, a larger home on Westpointe is where they welcomed the birth of their youngest child.

Howard and Leona were blessed with nine children, and as the children grew it was time to move again. Howard built a home in Howell, Michigan big enough for their large family. They spent many happy years on that beautiful property in the woods where the children enjoyed skiing and snowmobiling in the winter and climbing trees in the summer.

Their next move would take them to a farmhouse in Webberville, where they did a major renovation, raised chickens, gardened, canned and Leona made the best pie crust in the world.

Leona found great joy in retirement in the home Howard built in Branch, Michigan; continuing to garden, planting over 1,000 trees, volunteering at their local Catholic Church, and pursuing her love of quilting. The joy of their lives would continue to be seeing the nineteen grandchildren and spending time with them.

Later years, returned them to Webberville in a home their children built. Leona lost her beloved husband in 2012, but carried on with great strength and continued to live independently. She was never alone and treasured the time spent with her nineteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. They all cherished the hugs, conversations, wise counsel, full cookie can, and the beautiful quilts gifted to them as they started their families.

We, her family, celebrate her life and are happy she is with her beloved Howard. We are sure he has built her a beautiful home in heaven!

Leona is preceded in death by her husband Howard Fraley, Sr and their two infant children John and Mary. She is survived by her children Arnold (Norma) Fraley, Christine (David) Coddington, Howard (Chris) Fraley, Denise Dines, Carol (Richard) Carrasco, Ann (Anthony) Fraley-Muscat, David (Pamela) Fraley, Nancy (Don) Hill, Paul (Elizabeth) Fraley and grandchildren Daniel, Thomas, John, Michelle, Joseph, Karie, Erin, Travis, Tania, Cody, Justin, Courtney, Ryan, Nicolas, Rebecca, Michael, Veronica, Grant, Alexander and great grandchildren Lena, Elliott, Charlie, Chase, Haley, Lexi, Weston, Natalie, William, and Sophia.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Leona Fraley’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Visitation was held on Monday, Jan. 31, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Mass following at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Jeff Poll officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
