 Janet Louise Munn

Janet Louise Munn, age 76, made her great transition on February 19, 2022 at her home in East Lansing, Michigan.

Janet was born on March 2, 1945, in Howell, Michigan. She grew up in Fowlerville, graduating from high school in 1963.

Janet spent most of her professional life as a budget officer in the Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics at Michigan State University, retiring after nearly 40 years. She was recognized by her peers when she was awarded the Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff Award in 1989. She loved working with faculty and international students, especially in the area of food insecurity. She was widely loved and respected by faculty members, colleagues across the University, as well as students and visiting faculty from around the world.

In her retirement, Janet enjoyed creating exceptionally beautiful quilts, gifting those quilts to others, laughing, reading "real" books (no e-readers for her), supporting MSU athletics, and MSNBC.

She leaves a younger brother, Charles "Chuck" Warren (Gail Brandt) Munn, whom she loved dearly; and stepsisters, Marjie (Porter) Murphy and Vickie Porter. Janet is also survived by: nieces, Heidi Joy (Matthew Hellens) Pixley and Autumn Ann (Eric Amidon) Munn Howe; nephew, Kelley Brandt (Kimberly) Munn; great nieces, Elyssa Lee Munn, Grace Kelley Munn, Riley Elizabeth Howe, and Ainsley Hellens; and great nephews, Brody Walker Howe and Hunter JaxHellens. Also, Janet's lunch group that she met with monthly for more than 30 years and her bowling group were very special to her.

Janet is predeceased by her parents, John Sylvester Munn and Roberta Marie (Washington) Munn, stepmother, Marjorie Munn Thorne, twin brother, John "Jack" Herschel (Elizabeth) Munn, and sister Carol Ann Munn Pixley.

Per her wishes, Janet was cremated and her family, born and chosen, will celebrate her life at her favorite place, Bear Lake where she spent many vacations enjoying family and Michigan's natural beauty. The family will miss her infectious laugh at Bear Lake game nights and swimming shenanigans.

Janet will be missed by all whose lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, Janet's family requests that donations be made in her honor to either Michigan State University Retirees Scholarship Fund or a local food bank.

The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Lansing Chapel. To leave a cherished memory or words of sympathy for the Munn Family please visit www.greastlansing.com.
