Joseph P. Monroe
Joseph P. Monroe, who was born Nov 29, 1952 to Maurice and Helen (Berger) Monroe, passed away on June 8, 2019. Joe lived in Calumet, MI with his wife Andrea and their beloved dog Carlie. Joe graduated from Webberville High School in 1971. After school, Joe worked at the local gas station, then at Teledyne Howell Pencraft. He married his wife Barb and had two children, Joe and Becky. Joe moved North and worked for Keweenaw Mt. Lodge and YSI. After retiring from YSI he went to work in the maintenance dept. at Keweenaw Memorial Medical Center. Joe retired from Aspirus Medical Center last August. He was a retired fireman from Eagle Harbor Township Fire and Calumet Village Fire Depts.
Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially fly fishing. He loved tying his own flies. You could often find Joe walking along the beach hunting Agates with Andrea and Carlie or casting one of his flies with a smile on his face.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Helen Monroe; brother, Mo; sister, Bette Kidd. He is survived by his wife Andrea of Calumet; children, Joe (April) Monroe of Hancock; Becky (Mike) Chambers of Webberville; Robert (Jennifer) Freeze of Gwinn; Tiffany Freeze of Atlanta, GA; and Ronald (Joyce) Freeze of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Joey, Parker Monroe; Michaela, Sydney Chambers; James, Reilly Freeze; Catie (Tyler) Kangas, Cory, Kristin, Kevin, Caroline, Richard and Emma Koskiniemi. Siblings, Lynda (Paul) Hetrick, Chris (Deb) Monroe, Steve (Maureen) Monroe, Barb Monroe, Mary (Bill) Walton, David Kidd, Alice Monroe; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held in Calumet on June 15. Burial is taking place Saturday, June 29, at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Williamston at 11am with a luncheon to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
