Herman C. Yost
Herman C. Yost, age 92 of Owosso, formerly of Fowlerville, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at his home. Herman was born May 27, 1932 in Indianapolis, the son of Marion and Florence Yost. He graduated from Western High School, class of 1950, earned a Masters Degree from Wayne State University and proudly served in the United States Coast Guard.
He married Shirley Kearns in Detroit on May 15, 1954, who predeceased Herman on December 10, 2021.
Herman worked at Detroit Police for 25 years, was a real estate agent, earned his builders license, as well as working as a public school teacher, and as a pastor before he retired to care for his wife.
Herman was well known and enjoyed helping people in his hometown of Fowlerville. Through the years he was a volunteer firefighter, involved with both the Livingston Literacy Council and American Red Cross, plus volunteered for the Fowlerville Fairgrounds Livingston Centre Historic Village.
Herman is survived by his daughters Susan (Paul) Guaresimo, Janet Yost and Sharon (Sharry) Lauerman; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; other loving friends and family.
He was predeceased by his wife, brother, and infant son.
Visitation was held on Father’s Day, June 16, 2024 from 3 to 6 pm at Nelson House Funeral Home. Burial followed on June 21, 2024, with military honors before the procession to Great Lakes National Cemetery.
An informal reception followed burial at Owosso First Nazarene Church. The family has asked those present e to share their memory of Herman.
