Williamston Area Senior Center to feature author of baseball book
On Wednesday, April 3, at 12:30 pm, Mitch Lutzke, award-winning author and radio reporter from Williamston, will be discussing his book, “The Page Fence Giants – A History of Black Baseball’s Pioneering Champions.” Lutzke is a Williamston High School history teacher and track coach.
‘The Page Fence Giants’ is the story of a black baseball team that had been hidden away for over a century. This team from Adrian, Michigan in the 1890’s was sponsored by the Woven-Wire Fence Company. Long before Jackie Robinson, Sol White, a Hall of Famer, played second base for the Page Fence Giants.
