New girls varsity basketball coach brings over 15 years of experience
The new Fowlerville High School varsity girls basketball coach, Billy Selvia, brings over 15 years of coaching experience to his position, including leading a successful AAU basketball program in the Flint area. He replaces Nick Douglass.
“Coach Selvia’s passion and dedication for the game of basketball showed throughout the entire interview process,” said Fowlerville High School Athletic Director Brian Osborn.
“Coach Selvia is excited to work with our group of girls to build on a highly competitive basketball program in Fowlerville that all will be proud of,” Osborn added. “He will focus on relationships, building trust between players and coaches, basketball I.Q. and making sure the Gladiators have sound fundamentals. Coach Selvia will be a great addition to the Fowlerville Athletic Department and we look forward to many years of success on and most importantly off the basketball court. I am excited to get Coach Selvia in the gym working with our girls.”
Though the season does not officially start until November, Coach Selvia will begin summer activities immediately and said that he looks forward to connecting with the returning players and any students in the district interested in playing basketball.
He met with the players last Tuesday for a quick meeting and then moved into an open gym session. Summer league games will begin this Monday, June 19.
