Longtime FHS teacher named as new boys varsity basketball coach
Longtime Fowlerville teacher Jim Jonas has been named as the new boys varsity basketball coach. Jonas takes over for Fred Hackett who served 15 years in that position.
“Coach Jonas has a track record of building winners,” stated Fowlerville High Athletic Director Brian Osborn in making the announcement. “As the girls’ basketball coach in 2002, Coach Jonas led the Gladiators to the Regionals, has twice qualified our boys’ tennis team for the State Finals, and has built a successful girls tennis program. Coach Jonas knows what it takes to be successful and how to develop talent through individual workouts and in the team setting.”
Jonas brings a familiarity with most of the players on the team, having been the junior varsity coach for the past few years.
“Coach Jonas is a fantastic coach and an even better person,” said Osborn. “We should all be excited to have a person of Jim’s character leading our young men. Jim’s knowledge of the game, player development, in-game adjustments that we have witnessed in previous years that are necessary to win and his ability to develop relationships will keep the future bright at Fowlerville!”
Coach Jonas said that he is looking forward to the challenge of building and maintaining a successful program both on and off the court for years to come.
He met last Monday, June 12, with players to discuss his mission, vision, core values and summer schedule.
