Harold L. Bessert
     Harold L. Bessert, 77 of Allegan, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at American House Senior Living Communities in Holland, Michigan.  Mr. Bessert was born August 7, 1939 in Fowlerville, Michigan, the son of the late Ernest and Bernice Bessert.  Harold received his Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University and went on to earn his Master’s Degree from Michigan State University. 
    He dedicated over 42 years to the Hartland Public Schools in Michigan; first teaching and later as the school district’s superintendent.  He had a passion for education and loved being a part of the school system and doing his best to make a difference for his students.  Harold was a man of great character, along with compassion and concern for others.  Two of Harold’s passions were cooking and gardening.  He even owned and cooked at his own restaurant, The Little Finger, in Northport, Michigan.  He was a gentle soul who led a colorful life and will be missed by many.
   Harold is survived by his daughter: Kimberly and John Maniaci; his grandson: Luke Maniaci; his brother: Ron and Alice Bessert; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandi; sister, Margaret Risdon; and two brothers:  Max and George Bessert
    A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Ron Bessert officiating.  Memorial donations may be made in Harold’s name to Walk of Faith House (P.O. Box 1321, Newnan, GA 30264) and the Alzheimer’s Association West (2944 Fuller Avenue, NE, Suite 101, Grand Rapids, MI 49505).  Interment will take place at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Fowlerville, MI.  Arrangements were handled by Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel     (www.gordenfuneral.com).
