Maxine Schoonover
Maxine Schoonover, age 87 of Fowlerville, died on Oct. 20, 2016. She was born on Oct. 16, 1929, the daughter of Etta and Erwin Sheldon. She was married to Wilbert Schoonover on June 24, 1950. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 2015. The couple moved to Fowlerville in 1960 after purchasing a farm on North Gregory Road in Conway Township. Maxine was the bookkeeper for Schoonover Produce--the family business. She was a Red Cross volunteer for over 40 years and served many of those years as a chair for the Fowlerville Blood Drive. She and her husband were active in the National Soil Conservation Service, including the Northwest Livingston Soil & Conservation District as well as at the state and North Central Region levels. Twice she was named ‘Woman of the Year’ for the multi-state North Central Region District. The couple was members of the Michigan Farm Bureau and, Maxine belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Fowlerville.
Survivors include her sons: Mike (Noreen) Schoonover and Mark (Lisa Judd) Schoonover; a daughter: Patti (Scott) Bell; grandchildren: Louisa Trott, Tara Bell, and Ryan Bell; six great grandchildren; sisters: Betta Beach and Catherine Muckenhirn; and a brother: Butch Sheldon.
She was preceded in death by her sisters: Lucille Schoonover and Lena Fischer, and a brother: Milo Sheldon.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Herrmann Funeral Home in Fowlerville. Funeral services will be held on Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Fowlerville. Burial will take place at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
