‘Community Giving’ Programs planned at the Fowlerville District Library
By Audrey Glass, Programming Assistant
The Fowlerville District Library will be hosting three ‘Community Giving’ Programs, beginning Nov. 1.
Sleeping Mats for the Homeless: From November 1st-March 31st, the Fowlerville Library will be facilitating the making and collecting of crocheted plastic sleeping mats that will be distributed to the homeless. No matter your skill level you can volunteer by doing any of the following:
1. Donate plastic shopping bags.
2. Make the bags into plastic yarn by cutting them into strips and slip-knotting them together.
3. Crochet the plastic yarn into a 3’ x 6’ long sleeping mat. Requires a size N needle.
Plastic bags, finished yarn balls, and finished mats can be dropped off at the front desk. If you need instructions on how to make the yarn, or how to crochet the mat, make an appointment with Cindy at the front desk to learn how.
We will also be collecting donations of items for the homeless such as: thick socks, tooth brushes, toothpaste, dental floss, Band-Aids, underwear, Neosporin, cortisone cream, cotton swabs, Listerine, deodorant, razors, nail clippers, baby wipes, batteries, and feminine hygiene products.
Food Drive for the Family Impact Center: Also beginning November 1st, the library will be collecting nonperishable food items to donate to the Family Impact Center. If you bring in 5 food items, you can check out any New DVD for free. Please check to make sure the food you are donating is not past the expiration date. Expired food cannot be used by the Family Impact Center.
Toys for Tots: The library is once again participating in Toys for Tots. You can donate to Toys for Tots by dropping off toys in the collection boxes that will be located here at the library from November 1st-December 20th.Toys for Tots requires that any donated toys be new, in the original packaging, and not wrapped. Toys for Tots cannot accept toy weapons of any kind, gift cards, or food.
The Fowlerville Library is proud to participate in these generous programs. Thank you everyone for supporting each other and your community.
