Williamston Farmers Market celebrates ‘World Turtle Day’ May 22
The Eastern Ingham Farmers Market in Williamston welcomes new and returning visitors, vendors and volunteers from 10am to 2pm this Sunday, May 22, in McCormick Park's large parking lot. To celebrate ‘World Turtle Day’, some vendors will offer turtle-themed items or offer discounts, such as S & S Crafts, whose turtle-themed bowl holders will be discounted.
The special guest at Sunday's Market will be Williamston's own Nature Discovery, with Jim and Carol McGrath who are bringing special turtle friends including Milberta the Red Footed Tortoise to exhibit. In addition, there will be three guided wild turtle viewing sessions from the fishing deck along the Red Cedar River in McCormick Park. The tours are free and will begin at 10:15am, 11:45am and 1:15pm. Interested participants are asked to gather at the Nature Discovery canopy booth in the Market prior to walking to the fishing deck.
During the past two years, much of the Market's optional activities such as live music and the children's booths were suspended due to Covid-19 concerns. While always keeping the safety of participants in mind, this season Market Manager Tom Cary and the Board of Directors of Sowing Growth, the nonprofit that operates the Market, have planned for the return of these activities weekly and other special events on occasional Sundays during the season, rain or shine through October 16. There will also be a special Thanksgiving Market on November 20 and Holiday Market on December 18th.
