Marjorie Linebaugh
Marjorie Ann McElwee Linebaugh of Traverse City and formerly of Fowlerville passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Pavilions in Traverse City, Mi. She was 94 years old.
Marjorie was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on January 27, 1927 to Richard Gilbert McElwee and Ruby Irene Calkins McElwee. Marjorie married William Richard Linebaugh on June 18, 1949 at the Kirk in the Hills in Bloomfield Hills, Mi. William preceded Marjorie in death in 2015 after 66 years of marriage.
Marjorie graduated second in her class in 1945 from Dondero High School in Royal Oak, Mi. She then attended Michigan State University and graduated with a double major of English and Journalism and a double minor of German and Literature in 1949.
Marjorie and Bill lived an “exciting life” as Marge often described it beginning in a little bungalow in Southfield, Michigan. Four years later the couple bought an 80 acre farm in Fowlerville, Michigan. It was in the Fowlerville School District that they began their teaching careers for the next 18 years. In 1969 Bill accepted a job teaching at Ferris State College and the couple moved their family to Evart, Michigan. While living in Evart, Marge taught English and Journalism in the Evart Schools until 1987 when the couple both retired. Following retirement, they made their final move to Traverse City.
Marge found such joy in life and particularly in the outdoors which she called her “playground.” She was continually involved in serving our Savior in church, making quilts for her family, providing extra help for children who were behind in school, solving crossword puzzles, reading newspapers and novels, playing all kinds of board games, writing poetry, painting beautiful watercolors, sailing on The Marjorie Ann throughout Traverse Bay, taking long walks, listening to music in the afternoons, and dancing with the love of her life, Bill.
She is survived by five children: Karl (Cindy) Linebaugh of Stanwood, Susan (Charles) Chapel of Fenton, Marshall Linebaugh of Vicksburg, Melodie (Pam) Linebaugh of Buckley, and Amy (Craig) Wilber of Evart.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Kristin (Matt) Schultz, Melinda Linebaugh, Jonathan (Brooke) Chapel, Jeffrey (Michelle) Chapel, Austin (Molly) Linebaugh, Taylor (Ashley) Linebaugh, Audrey (Alec) Sadowski, William Walters, Jenuine Walters, Jillian (Korey) Carmichael, and Katie (Justin) Hatchew.
Also surviving are 21 great grandchildren: Mila and Conlan Schultz; Reid and Miles Smith, Greenlee, Cruze, Charlotte, Park Chapel; Bryler, Aubrey Chapel; Eli Linebaugh; Mackenzie, Cadence, Jordan Linebaugh; Leigha Jo, Josh, Blake Walters; Layla Walters and Sandra Carmichael; Lilly and Michael Hatchew.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her brother Richard Lee McElwee
