Darrell Dean Hughes
On Thursday, May 6, 2021, Darrell Dean Hughes passed away after a short respite in the hospital. He is survived by his wife Elaine (Covell) Hughes, his two children Barry Kevin Hughes and Holly Anne (Hughes) Pressel, son-in-in law Aaron Thomas Pressel, stepchildren Ronald and Kathleen, brother Morris (Judy), grandchildren Jeremy, Michelle, Kayla, Brianna, Rylee, Emma, and Aiden as well as several great grandchildren.
Darrell was born to Lewis Edward Hughes and Lydia Ella (Hunholz) Hughes in Springfield, Missouri on January 31, 1938. Darrell moved to Dearborn, Michigan when he was a young boy and graduated from Edsel Ford High School. Later, Darrell attended Lipscomb University to pursue a degree in Lutheran ministry. Realizing that the ministry was not his true calling, Darrell began working for the City of Dearborn in the early 1960’s and found his true love in land surveying. He worked for the City of Dearborn for many years before moving out to Fowlerville and starting his own business in 1978.
After 43 wonderful years of marriage, his wife Beverly Ann (Montavon) Hughes passed, and Darrell found love and happiness again with Elaine. Elaine and Darrell were married on January 13, 2012 and were able to spend many years laughing and enjoying life together.
Fowlerville was a big part of Darrell’s life and he was very involved in the community. He owned his own business, Darrell Hughes and Associates Land Surveying for 32 years. Darrell was a familiar face at the Fowlerville Fair each summer and the Fly In Breakfast in the fall. Darrell was an active member of the Rotary and Downtown Development Authority for many years.
It was Darrell’s wishes that there not be a service or memorial. If you wish to honor Darrell, in lieu of flowers, have a shot and a beer and donate to a charity of your choosing. To those of you whom knew him personally, thank you for being a part of his life.
Arrangements entrusted to Herrmann Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com
