 Jeaneen Reynolds

Jeaneen Reynolds passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 21, 2020. Jeaneen was an avid cyclist. She never missed an opportunity to get out on the bike, and delighted in bringing new cyclists into the sport. She was continually learning about the sport of cycling and worked to bring her bike to peak performance as well as improving her skills as a cyclist. She was a knowledgeable and patient mentor and teacher to many. She was a member of the Tri-County Bicycle Association, and her cycling friends were a great joy to her.

Jeaneen loved animals and had a knack for communicating with them. She always said she would prefer to be outside working with animals than inside doing any domestic chore. She spent many hours in her youth working with horses and hanging out in the barn. As an adult, she bred, raised and trained dogs, and the family was never without animals in the house. Most of them strays or adopted pets. Jeaneen’s most recent housemate was Spike, a spunky Jack Russell Terrier that brought her great joy.

She also enjoyed gardening and always seemed to have the most beautiful flowers with minimal effort. Her house and yard were the most beautiful on the block, and she willingly shared her proliferous plants and flowers with others.

Jeaneen worked at Zeeb Animal Hospital for many years and has continued to assist the clinic with clerical tasks after her retirement. She has made many good friends during this time, especially Dr. Edie Kimball.

Jeaneen is preceded in death by her parents Merlin and Marian Eggleston. Survived by two siblings, Vic Eggleston (Joyce), Suzette Horton (Dennis). Two children, Val Sloan (Mark) and Clay Reynolds (Therese). Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her kindness, mentoring, great listening ear, quick wit and sarcasm, and fierce independence will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers,  donations can be made to DALMAC (Dick Allen Lansing to Mackinaw bike ride) through the Tri-County Bicycle Association website www.biketcba.org and click on the DALMAC link or make checks payable to: DALMAC and mail to P.O. Box 22146, Lansing, Michigan 48909-2146.

Livingston County United Way’s ‘Matching Money Monday’ is Dec. 7

We are almost through 2020 and all of us are thinking about 2021.  At United Way, that means raising money before the end of 2020, to pay for next year’s community programs.

This year’s ‘Matching Money Monday’ event is more important than ever as many of our funded partners have been hit hard this year and will need all the support we can give for next year.  Please consider joining us on this very special day.  All donations received on Monday, December 7, will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to total funds available! In fact, ‘Matching Money Monday’ is the single largest one-day fundraiser in Livingston County!

All donations raised from ‘Matching Money Monday’ go directly to help our local working families, many of whom are struggling to put food on their tables, keeping their lights & heat on, and a roof over their heads.

If you have ever wondered how matching works, it is from the generosity of amazing sponsors who agree to cover the match each year.  And this year, they have gone above and beyond to cover what comes in!  ‘Matching Money Monday 2020’ is possible through these generous sponsors: Ted & Jane Von Voigtlander Foundation, Howell Rotary’s Tour de Livingston, Ascension, AAA Service Network, LCUW Past & Present Board Members, Bob Maxey Ford, Fifth Third Bank, General Motors Milford Proving Ground, Redi-Wall, The Musch Family and Anonymous Sponsors.

So please consider supporting our Livingston County Families on December 7th!  You can donate online at www.lcunitedway.org, by phone (810-494-3000), or drop off donation to Livingston County United Way office at 2980 Dorr Rd, Brighton, MI 48116. The building drop off has changed a little this year and will be more of a drive though drop off, but no worry, we will still have cookies safely prepared and individually wrapped for each person!

To learn more about the work of Livingston County United Way and how to get involved or donate, call 810-494-3000, visit www.lcunitedway.org or social media accounts @lcunitedway.

 Ivan William Redfield, Jr.

Ivan William Redfield, Jr. passed away peacefully from pneumonia on November 13, 2020 after a battle with cancer.  Known as JR, he was born in Howell in March 1951 to Ivan “Skeet” and Bonnie Felton Redfield.  He is survived by the love of his life Patricia Ries Redfield and sisters dear to him, Janice Osan of Tennessee and Cherie (Bill) Mollison of Fowlerville.  He leaves behind his step-daughter Kimberly Wakeman and step-son Robin (Clarinda) Ries and grandchildren Adelaide and Ian Wakeman, Janelle and Brittany Ries all of California, and Gary Bachman of Fowlerville. JR also treasured his nephews Lorne Osan and Brian Osan and sons all of Tennessee, as well as many cousins and extended family members.

JR graduated from Fowlerville High School Class of 1969 and was a veteran of the US Army Engineer Corps.  After operating a cattle hauling business for several years, he went to work for Cars and Concepts in Brighton Michigan.  They were starting an auto racing team and JR was hired to drive the car transporter, buy parts and help manage the pits on race day. This was a job he performed over many years while with C & C, Roush Racing and Pratt & Miller Engineering.  He saw competition in series that included IMSA GTO & GTP, NASCAR Super Trucks and SCCA Trans-Am.  According to a team member, JR was there in the infancy of Pratt & Miller Corvette Racing which has had great success. Rosco also relates how JR was a mentor to the younger guys on the team and helped “raise them.”  The role of mentor was one JR liked.

Telling stories came naturally to JR and his adventures traveling the country and abroad in his motorsports career provided him great material.  His story of driving a huge U.S. race truck through the tiny French village streets on his way to Le Mans was a classic and also highlighted in the company magazine.  Exploits with his buddies in the Class of 69, work on the family farm with an amazing cast of characters, and deer hunting trips up-north were among his repertoire of hilarious stories.  Like other farm kids, he could do many things including mechanical and electrical work, carpentry and plumbing.  His joke was “If I can’t fix it, it ain’t broke.”

Many summers Pattie and JR held wonderful reunions for both sides of the family and their many, many friends.  Pattie owned and operated the Shady Lady Saloon in Fowlerville where JR and friends spent some mighty good times.  To this day people still reminisce about the place.

JR spent years on the road so in his retirement he especially enjoyed his home in the country, his pets and watching the parade of animals on the property.  He often quoted his Grandma Redfield to Pattie, “Let me live by the side of the road and be a friend to mankind.” At the end of a phone call he would often say, “Bye, bye, love you much.” JR Redfield will be sorely missed, but remembered in the stories of others.

A celebration of life will be held in Spring 2021 with notification in the paper and phone calls.

 Robert Monroe

January 18, 1959 - October 30, 2020

Robert Emmett Monroe passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 peacefully at home at the age of 62.

Robert was a hardworking man with a big heart that took great pride in being a loving father, and a reliable friend. He strived every moment to instill these values into the ones he loved around him and his presence was felt by many.

Robert, when not working or spending time with his kids and grandkids, loved NASCAR (Go Kyle Busch! and if you think differently he would tell you how wrong you were) and Michigan State football. He would also love reminiscing about his time spent with his father working on cars and he loved sharing that knowledge with his kids.

He is lovingly remembered by his father and mother Robert Monroe and Geraldine Monroe, his sister Deborah Monroe-Ritz, his sons Gabriel (Amber) and Robert Monroe, and his daughter Arrielle (Bradly) Brown, and his grandchildren Koda, Kilian, Lillian, Jake, Tyler, Luke, Savannah.  Preceded in death by Theresa Monroe, and baby Luke.

Thank you for all you did, rest easy.

Love you Dad.

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray.”

 Cleo E. Chase

1924-2020

Cleo E. Chase, 96, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 22, 2020. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Arthur J. Chase.

Cleo, a lifelong resident of Webberville, Michigan, graduated from Webberville High School in 1941. Cleo and Art were married in 1943 and resided in Webberville.

During that time, Cleo received her teaching certificate from Ingham County Normal in Mason while Art was serving in Europe during World War II. Cleo returned to college while raising 5 children and received her degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University. She began a 19-year career as a kindergarten teacher at Webberville Community Schools until her retirement in 1985.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in both Webberville and Fowlerville, at various times, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. She was a charter member of the Women’s Advance Club and started the Webberville 4-H Club in 1953.

It was Cleo’s love of music that led her to become a member of various Sweet Adeline barbershop choirs in both Livingston and Ingham counties over the years. This love of music continued throughout her entire life as she entertained at various social occasions and eventually presented her with a most cherished and favorite pastime of playing piano three days a week at the Williamston Senior Center. It was there that she celebrated her 95th birthday with her many friends, still playing the songs that she loved. Ironically, Cleo could not read a note of music and played the piano beautifully by ear.

Cleo was a lifelong Detroit Tigers baseball fan right up to her last days, rarely missing a televised game. She was an avid reader and moviegoer and particularly enjoyed attending any event that her grandchildren participated in.

Cleo is survived by her children: David (Marsha), Marcia Maxwell, Steven (Joy), Michael (Teresa), and Jeffrey (Terry), 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, brother Silas Bement, brother Robert Bement, sister Helen Bigelow, and numerous nephews and nieces.

A private celebration of Cleo’s life will be held on November 14 at the Webberville United Methodist Church. Please consider memorial contributions in Cleo’s name to the Williamston Senior Center, PO Box 343, Williamston MI 48895.

A special thank you to nurses Courtney, Jessica, Singing Mary and Chaplain Russ of Elara Caring.

The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home.
