Fowlerville 4th of July celebration highlighted by parade & fireworks show
The annual Fowlerville 4th of July celebration will once again be highlighted by an evening parade and fireworks show. Other activities are also planned this Thursday.
The parade will line up on Veterans Drive, on the west side of the village, next to the VFW Hall, starting at 5:45 pm. The parade will then step off at 7 pm.
The parade route will proceed east along Grand River Ave., through town, and will disband at the St. Agnes Church parking lot. Grand River in the Downtown area will be closed off at 6 p.m.
The Grand Marshals for the parade this year are Matt and Wendy Martin and family. Matt owns the Cedar River Car Wash and Old Glory Auto Wash.
“We chose Matt Martin and his family as our 2019 Grand Marshal because the Martin family has been loyal supporters of the fireworks show and the Annual Chili Cook-Off fundraiser for many years,” the July 4th Committee said in a statement. “  The committee thought it was time to honor their unwavering support for the annual fireworks show.”
Marissa Carson will be performing the National Anthem once the Color Guard reaches the stand.
The fireworks show—another highlight of the event— will begin at 10 pm.
Prime viewing locations for the fireworks will be at Community Park and the Fowlerville Fairgrounds. Kari Holmes and the Modern Day Drifters will be performing at Community Park from 8 to 10 pm. There will also be food and novelty vendors at both the park and the fairgrounds at this time.
The fireworks show—which costs around $11,000—is funded from donations by the public as well as the fundraising efforts of the 4th of July Committee. Additional money is also needed to rent portable restrooms and trash receptacles and to pay for other expenses including insurance. Without these donations that are collected on July 4th by volunteers and committee members, there would not be a show. The committee members request that you donate in cash or check. They do not have the capability to accept credit cards.
Volunteers will be at the entrances of the park and fairgrounds prior to the show and circulating along the parade route earlier in the evening, seeking contributions for next year’s display.

The Rusty Wright Band to perform at Courthouse Concert on July 5
The Rusty Wright Band will perform at the Courthouse Concert in Downtown Howell on Friday, July 5, from 7-9 p.m.
A variety of local area musicians take center stage every Friday night throughout the summer on the lawn of the Historic Howell Courthouse as Concerts at the Courthouse enters its 21st season! This perennially popular program is a free series of concerts presented by the Livingston Arts Council throughout the summer, featuring rock, folk and blues entertainment at an outdoor family (and pet)-friendly venue. Pack a blanket or chair, and bring a snack or eat at one of Howell’s many downtown restaurants before enjoying the evening’s entertainment!
This year’s series continues with a group that’s been called “easily the best blues band Michigan has produced in the past 10 years.”  For Rusty Wright, it’s “all about the moment,” commanding the stage to deliver the musical heat, the infectious grooves and penetratingly sincere songs that have earned the Michigan native an international audience and recognition as a Master Blues Artist in the International Blues Hall of Fame®.     Formed in 2004, the band's second public performance was opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd at an outdoor amphitheatre in pouring rain with lightning crashing nearby. The crowd of 4000+ rewarded them with a standing ovation and became the nucleus of the band's ultra-loyal Midwest following. In the years since, The Rusty Wright Band has expanded their audience to encompass three continents. T    hose who’ve seen Wright and his top-drawer band – wife and singer-guitarist Laurie Wright, drummer Chris America and bassist Nic Allen – perform live will attest to the outfit’s razor-tight, explosive delivery of inventive blues songs. The band's innovative sound is a hot rod fusing of Texas and Chicago-style blues, swinging boogie and Southern rock, with a twist of Motor City grit.
It’s that rare combination (along with Wright’s trademark, flowing white hair and eye-popping guitar leads) that commands immediate attention. Wright's fearless approach to music has cultivated growing legions of loyal fans and has driven Wright since he first started exploring the wonder of music, from blues and country to early rock ’n’ roll to “the long-hair” stuff of the Allman Brothers and LynyrdSkynyrd.
Since 2006, the band has released six albums on Wright’sSadson Music label; 2015’s “Wonder Man” reached #8 on the Billboard Blues Chart and #4 on the Billboard Heatseeker Chart, as well as numerous other national and international airplay charts. The disc was included in a number of year-end "best of" lists and nominated for Album of the Year in the Vintage Guitar Magazine Reader's Choice Awards alongside luminaries such as Jeff Beck, Joe Bonamassa, Pink Floyd's David Gilmore, and Sonny Landreth.
Originally from mid-Michigan, Rusty and Laurie Wright, along with their ever changing number of feline family members, now make their home in Florida.
Concerts at the Courthouse runs every Friday night from June 28th – August 23rd. In the event of inclement weather, concerts may be cancelled – listen to WHMI 93.5 for updates or visit the Livingston Arts Council Facebook page. No alcoholic beverages are permitted.

  That she will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left.
Your heart can be empty, because you can’t see her,
Or you can be full of love that you shared.
You can turn your back on Tomorrow,
  And live yesterday.
You can remember her and only she is gone.
Or you can cherish her memory, and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty, and turn

Open your eyes, love, and go on.

Concerts at the Courthouse begins with ‘Magic Bus’ on Friday, June 28
A variety of area musicians take center stage every Friday night throughout the summer on the lawn of the Historic Howell Courthouse as Concerts at the Courthouse enters its 21st season. This perennially popular program is a free series of concerts presented by the Livingston Arts Council, featuring rock, folk and blues entertainment at an outdoor family (and pet)-friendly venue. Pack a blanket or chair, and bring a snack or eat at one of Howell’s many downtown restaurants before enjoying the evening’s entertainment!
This year’s series begins on Friday, June 28, with ‘Magic Bus’, a psychedelic rock tribute to the Woodstock era. If you are too young to remember that magical time, you can now be transported back there by taking a ride with the “Magic Bus.” Their incredible musical abilities and authentic look will transcend the modern and jet you back to the Haight-Ashbury District of San Francisco in 1967 - a time of musical and creative energy that has never been equaled before or since.
The show will be performed from 7-9 p.m.
Concerts at the Courthouse runs every Friday night from June 28th – August 23rd. In the event of inclement weather, concerts may be cancelled – listen to WHMI 93.5 for updates or visit the Livingston Arts Council Facebook page. No alcoholic beverages are permitted.

Thomas Gordon Harmon
Thomas Gordon Harmon, 76, died peacefully at his home in Gold Canyon, AZ on May 30, 2019.  He graduated from Detroit University and began his career as a CPA with Arthur Anderson.  He followed his passion for real estate by joining the family business and becoming the second generation Broker/Owner of Harmon Real Estate. The business was started in 1946 by his parents, Gordon & Gladys Harmon. He was an active member of the Fowlerville community having served for many years on the Downtown Development Authority, Local Development Financing Authority, and Rotary Club. You Never Said Goodbye
You never said I’m leaving,
You never said Goodbye.
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knew why.
A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
In life I loved  you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart  you hold a place,
That no one could ever fill.
It broke my heart to lose  you,
But you didn’t go alone.
For part of me went with you,
The day God took you home
