The money will help fund the Maison Z. Wilkinson Scholarship. In the fall of 2006, Maison (who was a young boy at the time) was killed in a traffic accident. His parents sought a way to memorialize him, so the following May the family gave away scholarships at the Fowlerville High School Senior Honors Night. One of the criteria was that the recipients played soccer, a sport the young boy loved.
The family continued presenting this scholarship to graduating seniors for the next several years, but funding it was becoming a challenge. Then in March of 2012, Fowlerville Junior High students, led by teacher-advisor Amy Jarvis, decided to hold a Garage Sale & Fundraising Day as a service project. Their goal was to raise money for this scholarship. That tradition has continued with both junior high and high school students, along with other volunteers, helping to put on the event.
