Laurel Alberta Veith
Laurel Alberta Veith, age 94, of Amherst, Ohio passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday January 9, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was born the youngest child of Earl and Maude (Hill) Kent on June 26, 1924 in Fowlerville, Michigan. Laurel was married to Martin Veith on August 6, 1955 in Fowlerville. Laurel worked as a telephone operator in Fowlerville before marriage. After meeting Martin, she became a devoted wife and mother raising her two children. She was completely adored by her grandchildren who refer to her as Gee. They would best describe Gee as a textbook perfect grandmother.
She was an active member of Amherst United Methodist Church for over 40 years. She participated in many groups within the church over her time as a member. She spent most of her time with her friends and family. Family was extremely important to Laurel, and she regularly visited her Michigan relatives a few times per year.
Laurel’s surviving relatives include her husband, Martin; daughter, Sandra Desimone (Michael); son, Jon Veith; seven grandchilden, Brent Gueth (Autumn Docy), Braden Gueth (Cory Holycross), Breanne Gueth, Branda Gueth, Summer Rogier, Zane Rogier, Delaney Veith; and four great-grandchildren, Emarie Gueth, Preston Gueth, Alexander Gueth, and Braxton Stewart; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Duwayne Kent in 1968, a sister Arlene Harris in 1996, and a still born child (Janet Sue Veith). Visitation was held on Sunday, January 13, from 4-7 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home in Amherst and on Monday at 10 a.m., until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Kent Joy, pastor of Elyria First United Methodist Church in Elyria officiated. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
