Paul A. Schneider
   Paul A. Schneider, 87 of Elkader died Friday March 30, 2018, in Manchester, Iowa.  Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Joseph’s Church in Elkader, where Paul spent many hours remodeling and updating various areas of the Church, Parish Hall, and Convent. This was a labor of love for Paul as his father and uncles performed all the woodwork when the original church was built in 1898.
   Paul Alfred Schneider was born October 22, 1930 at Elkader, Iowa. He was the son of Victor and Paula Daugs Schneider. Paul was a 1949 graduate of Elkader High School where he excelled at athletics, winning 44 straight football games. He then attended Iowa State University before enlisting in the US Air Force and served his country in Japan during the Korean War. In 1957 he married Mary “Jean” Havertape in Masonville, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Susan, Daniel, Ann, John and Timothy.  Paul married Sara Larson of Williamston, MI in November 2001.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Jean and Dee, and two brothers, Victor and William.
   Paul took over Schneider Construction Co. from his father and continued the tradition of building quality homes, farm buildings, and commercial buildings in Elkader until 1982.  He then became a Superintendent for Larson Construction of Independence, Iowa.  Paul retired in 2002 and spent many retirement hours working in his woodshop constructing solid wood furniture.  His many treasures can be found among his children, grandchildren, and friends.
    He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sara Larson-Schneider of Williamston, Michigan; his children: Susan (Chuck) Hubbard, Daniel (Jackie) Schneider, Ann (Robert) Dover, John (Teresa) Schneider, and Timothy (Pam) Schneider; and his stepchildren: Liz (Reed) Davis, Kent Larson, Kurt (Loretta) Larson, Jan (Mark) Joseph, all of Williamston, Michigan, along with multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
   Paul’s Michigan Memorial Luncheon was on April 8 at Webberville United Methodist Church.
    His Iowa Memorial Service was held 11:00 am on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader, Iowa.  Inurnment: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Elkader, Iowa.
