Howell Recreation Millage Proposal to appear on November Election ballot
By Tim Church
Executive Director
Hello Howell Voter,
We are approaching a pivotal moment for the future of recreation in our community and we need your support! On Nov. 5th, you’ll have the opportunity to vote on the Howell Recreation Millage, a plan that will not only strengthen our current programs but also bring exciting new amenities and services to our community. The proposal will be on the ballot the for residents of the City of Howell, Genoa Township, Howell Township, Marion Township, and Oceola Township who also reside in the Howell School District.
This millage comes at a rate of 0.5 mills, which translates to an average of just 21 cents per day for households—a modest $75 per year investment. But what does this mean for you?
Here’s the impact:
--If passed, starting in January 2025, all residents will see a reduction in program and membership fees by an average of 15%! For a typical family, that amounts to a savings of $160 annually. Residents 75 and older will receive a free membership to the Oceola Community Center and Howell Senior Center.
--These funds will go directly into improving infrastructure and adding new recreation amenities to enhance our parks, facilities, and community offerings.
--We’ll be able to introduce new programs to better serve every member of our community, from kids to seniors, from fitness enthusiasts to those seeking enriching activities and for those needing more inclusive access to recreation.
We understand that you may have more questions about the millage, including what could happen if it doesn’t pass. For more detailed information, including answers to these important questions, please visit our website: https://www.howellrecreation.org/millage-faq
