Frederick (Fred) James Konopaska
Frederich ‘Fred’ James Konopaska—beloved husband, father and brother—passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024 in his home.
Born July 14, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, Fred spent most of his life in the Fowlerville area.
He graduated from Fowlerville High School in 1967. After graduating, Fred joined the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S Kitty Hawk. He married Karen Brockway in 1970, raising their two children along with hosting two exchange daughters at their home in Webberville, Michigan. Fred worked for Teledyne in Howell and coached summer softball. He was also a member of the Webberville Jaycees.
In 1993 Fred married the love of his life Donna McNeiece and they spent 31 wonderful years together. They lived on what their children lovely referred to as Green Acres, right outside of Fowlerville, Michigan.
Fred loved gardening and would often plant more tomatoes than his wife would be able to can. He enjoyed dancing and was quite good at it. He was brilliant with historical events. Fred had an amazing sense of humor and enjoyed joking around with his family.
Fred wasn’t a man of many words but was a very wise, compassionate man who loved his family and leaves behind an absence that his loving wife and children will never fill.
Survivors iniclude his sons: Fredrick (Jilayne) Konopaska of Marlette, Michigan and Michael (Brenda) Wears of Fowlerville, Michigan; daughters: Jeanne (Todd) McElroy of Norway, Iowa; and Stefanie Wears of Florida; Michelle Brandenburg of Fowlerville, Michigan; exchange daughters: Alexandra (Jeff) Robinson, of Germany and Bjork Fimmauradrottning of Iceland.
Also, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; sisters: Irene (Gordon) Wilkinson of Fowlerville, Michigan and Laura Brown of Conway, Arkansas; brother: Jeff (Marge) Konopaska, of Fowlerville Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents: Frederick Clarence and Rosalie Helen Konopaska; sisters: Rosemary (Robert) Pelham and Jane (Jack) Mueller; and grandson Seth James McElroy.
