 Bonnie ‘Baughan’ Wise

Bonnie (Baughan) Wise, age 78, went to heaven on Sunday, June 16 after navigating a long illness with grace and courage. Born January 16, 1946 in Detroit, Bonnie and her family moved to the Fowlerville area when she was 8 years old, and she has been an active part of the community since that time. She graduated from Fowlerville High School in 1964, and married her childhood sweetheart and best friend, Lenny Wise in 1965. Together they brought two daughters into the world: Heather and Heidi.

Bonnie was a stay-at-home Mom until she began her 30-year career as a real estate agent in the 1980s, and later became an associate broker. Many people in Livingston County found their forever homes with her as their patient guide through the process.

Bonnie had an active mind and a great sense of humor, and generally had a smile on her face for everyone she met. Bonnie was an avid gardener, and her perennial gardens were a magical sight to behold. She was a gifted seamstress and taught sewing to scores of local children in 4-H for many years. She was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church since childhood and enjoyed volunteering her time to keep the church grounds blooming and beautiful.

Friends and family were of the utmost importance to her, and she will forever be Aunt Bonnie to generations – some related and many who were not. Those who called her Grandma, however, truly owned her heart and could do no wrong. Joshua Scott, Chance Lipski and Morgan Lipski will forever have the memories of vacations with Grammy and Papa, golf-cart rides, movies and huge bowls of popcorn during numerous “Grammy Nights,” which will continue to fill their hearts with love for their grandmother, even though she no longer walks among us.

Bonnie was preceded in death by Lenny, her beloved husband of nearly 50 years; her parents Agnes and Donald R. Baughan; her younger sister Nancy Baughan; and parents-in-law Inez and Martin Wise. She is survived by her children Heidi Wise and Heather Wise (Craig Lipski); her grandchildren and granddaughter-in-law Katie Scott; great-grandchildren Rylie and Ivy Scott; five brothers and sisters (Don, John, Patrick, and Lori Baughan, and Peggy Hasenbusch); her siblings-in-law Marsha and Alan Walsh, Deanna and Kyle Cruse, and Larry and Norene Wise; and numerous nieces and nephews and their progeny.

Visitation and Rosary was held at the Herrmann Funeral Home in Fowlerville on Thursday, June 20th from 4 to 7 p.m. A viewing took place on Friday, June 21st at 10:00 a.m., just prior to the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery occurred immediately after the mass, which was followed by a luncheon at the St. Agnes Lothamer Parish Center.

 Herman C. Yost

Herman C. Yost, age 92 of Owosso, formerly of Fowlerville, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at his home. Herman was born May 27, 1932 in Indianapolis, the son of Marion and Florence Yost. He graduated from Western High School, class of 1950, earned a Masters Degree from Wayne State University and proudly served in the United States Coast Guard.

He married Shirley Kearns in Detroit on May 15, 1954, who predeceased Herman on December 10, 2021.

Herman worked at Detroit Police for 25 years, was a real estate agent, earned his builders license, as well as working as a public school teacher, and as a pastor before he retired to care for his wife.

Herman was well known and enjoyed helping people in his hometown of Fowlerville. Through the years he was a volunteer firefighter, involved with both the Livingston Literacy Council and American Red Cross, plus volunteered for the Fowlerville Fairgrounds Livingston Centre Historic Village.

Herman is survived by his daughters Susan (Paul) Guaresimo, Janet Yost and Sharon (Sharry) Lauerman; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; other loving friends and family.

He was predeceased by his wife, brother, and infant son.

Visitation was held on Father’s Day, June 16, 2024 from 3 to 6 pm at Nelson House Funeral Home. Burial followed on June 21, 2024, with military honors before the procession to Great Lakes National Cemetery.

An informal reception followed burial at Owosso First Nazarene Church. The family has asked those present e to share their memory of Herman.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Meals on Wheels. Online condolences may be sent to the family at Nelson-House.com.

Fowlerville Fair Open Class Registration is Now Open

By Dawn Bhajan,

Superintendent of Fowlerville Family Fair

Open Class Home Arts

Anticipation has been building for all of us Michigan artists, makers, growers, and collectors, as we’ve waited eagerly for our beloved Fair’s Open Class registration to go live. Especially poignant is the return of Open Class Home Arts, which is making a triumphant return from its heartbreaking cancellation in 2023.

The revitalization is in full swing, and your wait is over, my friends! Fowlerville Fair Open Class registration is LIVE, and will remain open through July 1st. The only requirement to enter is being a Michigan resident over the age of 5… no memberships or affiliations required.

You can browse the Open Class Fairbook and register your projects at www.fowlervillefamilyfair.com/fair/open-class.

Excited? So are we! Here’s how the Open Class Home Arts competition works…

For every 25 projects you enter, it costs just $10, and you can enter an unlimited number of projects. You can submit one entry per Class, with hundreds of Adult AND Youth Classes to choose from in Canning, Baking, Fine Arts, Folk Arts, Photography, Media Arts, Needlecraft/Fiber Arts, Floriculture, Horticulture, Agriculture, Special Needs, Inventions, Robotics, and more. (Collectors, make sure to check out our brand new Antiques Classes in the Folk Art Department!)

All Exhibitors will receive a complimentary day pass to the Fair, which runs July 22nd – July 27th, plus an invitation to a first-time, special Fair-week Exhibitor’s Reception, where we’ll celebrate the efforts and ingenuity of exhibitors, judges, and volunteers alike.

And, of course, there’s the chance to win ribbons, premiums, and bragging rights! These are the hot fudge, sprinkles, and cherry on top of this quintessential Fair experience.

If you haven’t already joined our “Fowlerville Fair Open Class Home Arts” Facebook group, now’s the time to do it. We’ll be posting judge’s tips, judging criteria, Open Class updates, and inspiration right up to Fair week, and invite you to share your own questions and advice.

Understand that by participating in this year’s Open Class Home Arts, you are sending an unmistakable message to our Fair Board and community that these life skills that have been passed down through the generations, and that make our lives easier, more comfortable, tastier, cozier, smarter, more beautiful and more precious, continue to have value. They continue to be worth celebrating, and passing on to the generations to come.

We invite you to be part of the movement. Be creative. Be prolific. Be an example to others and an inspiration to your community. Go to www.fowlervillefamilyfair.com/fair/open-class, register yourself and your family, and encourage your friends to do the same.

Let’s make this “come-back” story one for the record books.

As always, volunteers are needed and appreciated to help grow the Fowlerville Family Fair Open Home Arts program. Please email dawnbhajan@gmail.com with interest.

Tony was born in Adrian, MI to parents Charles and Dolly (Jones) Blascovich. Dolly passed away in 1962 when Tony was 4-1/2 years of age.
