Gerald (Jerry) Schade
Gerald (Jerry) Schade passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 20, 2024 at the age of 97. Jerry was born in Flint, MI on June 18th, 1926 to Ben & Dorothy Schade.
Jerry graduated from Bendle High School in Burton, MI in 1944 and entered the service the same year. Jerry was assigned to the 5thInfantry Division Third Army. He was proud to be a WWII veteran and proudly served his country. After Jerry’s honorable discharge, he enrolled in the Radio Electronic Television School in Detroit. After graduation in 1949 Jerry and his new bride Betty moved to Washington Twp., New Jersey and he was employed by ABC television in New York City.
In 1968 Jerry and Betty moved their family back to Michigan and settled in Okemos. In 1972 Jerry and Betty moved to and opened Schade’s Party Store in Fowlerville, remaining until 1982 when they moved to Lansing. In 1984 Jerry opened a general store in Eureka.
After retiring, they both enjoyed time at their cottage on Island Lake in Meredith, near Gladwin. Jerry was a member of VFW Post 3733 in Fowler. Jerry was also an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Lansing.
Jerry is survived by his sons Greg (Joy) of Huntington Beach, CA., Dave (Kat) from Flushing, MI., and daughter Jan (Mike) Jussila of Grand Ledge MI., Granddaughters Jennifer (Tim) Wilson of Okemos, MI. and Shannon Schade of Maryland, and Great Grandchildren Stark and Faye Wilson. Jerry is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jerry also had a host of special friends from the Waverly pool for many years. Jerry will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty of 52 years, Grandson Jason Thomas, Sister Marjorie Schmidt, and longtime friend Bernie Prine.
