Livingston Dems launch annual Gleaners Food Drive
We’re on the verge of the holiday season, a time of feasting and festivities. But too many people are left out of the fun because they can’t afford to put food on the table.
That’s why Livingston Dems are sponsoring their annual drive for Gleaners Food Bank now through Dec. 19.
“Compassion is a core Democratic value and there’s no better way to put that value into action than by donating to Gleaners at holiday time,” said Judy Daubenmier, chair of the Livingston County Democratic Party.
“This is the perfect way to help our friends and neighbors in need so that they can enjoy a hunger-free holiday.”
Donations can be made online here https://gleanersfooddrive.org/event/2022-livingston-democrats-food-drive/.
The party also will accept checks made out to Gleaners Food Bank and nonperishable food. Donations can be mailed to Livingston County Democratic Party, 8028 Grand River, Woodland Plaza Suite 7, Brighton, MI 48114, or delivered to the office. Office hours will be noon to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays through Dec. 19.
Gleaners uses its buying power to purchase food at a deep discount compared to prices available to the average consumer. The online donation page shows the difference between consumers’ prices and Gleaners’ prices and allows donors to “shop” for the type of food they would like their donation to be used for. “Your dollars go farther with Gleaners, but Gleaners appreciates donations of nonperishable food and paper products as well,” Daubenmier said.
Gleaners distributes food to those in need from its location in Brighton at 5924 Sterling Dr, Howell, but it also supplies food to 534 partner agencies such as soup kitchens and food pantries in Livingston County and the rest of southeast Michigan.
“A food drive for Gleaners has been a holiday tradition for Livingston County Democrats for decades, allowing the party to donate tens of thousands of meals over the years. Please help us keep this tradition going,” Daubenmier said.
