Fowlerville 1st United Methodist Church holding ‘Longest Night Service’ Dec. 21
Fowlerville 1st United Methodist Church invites you to a ‘Longest Night Service’ this Tuesday, Dec 21, at 7pm.
Some of you might be wondering what the ‘Longest Night’ Service is?
This is the celebration of the light piercing our darkness, and God’s light coming to us to brighten our lives. It recognizes that the winter solstice (Dec 21) is the longest period of darkness for our part of the world.
The Christmas season is often marked by expressions of joy, excitement, and happiness. It’s a time for family to gather and for churches to worship pointing to the hope that is found in the coming of the Christ child. However, this service also recognizes the “darkness” that many people go through at this time of the year, things such as grief over the loss of a loved one, or illness, divorce, loss of a job, loss of a home and other things too numerous to mention. Having suffered loss such as this, it can be a difficult time for many of us.
If you find yourself longing for the light of a “new day” the light of Christ, you will not be alone as we share in the liturgy of prayer and reflection on the longest night of the year. Fowlerville 1st UMC is located at 201 S Second St. If you have questions, please contact the church office at 517-223-8824.
