As a young man living in the country, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing and just being outdoors. He also enjoyed camping with his family and relatives at Black Lake and Ludington State Park. Joe was always striving to be the best husband, father, and friend by being introspective and reading self-help books. In his middle and golden years, Joe enjoyed family reunions and holidays in which he could spend time with his relatives, children and grandchildren . He always made an effort to attend concerts, sports, and other events that his loved ones participated in. In the last few years of his illustrious life, Joe could be found in downtown Fowlerville most mornings talking with his friends at the local restaurants. He had so many good friends and memories from his childhood that he lived in Fowlerville for the greater part of his life. He had a passion for pickle ball which kept him active and made him many more friends. When walking became difficult for him, he loved getting on his tractor or cutting the grass on his riding lawn mower. He was the captain of his own ship and will forever be known for his captain hats. He has sailed to a better place and will truly be missed.

6th Annual Maison Z. Wilkinson Scholarship Fundraiser this Saturday
The upcoming 6th Annual Garage Sale & Fundraiser will be held this Saturday, March 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Junior High gym.
Organizers have been accepting donations for the Garage Sale for the past few weeks. Those items will be on sale. There will also be a 50/50 Raffle, a Silent Auction, a Bake Sale, and Concessions. Monetary donations are also welcome.
The money will help fund the Maison Z. Wilkinson Scholarship. In the fall of 2006, Maison (who was a young boy at the time) was killed in a traffic accident. His parents sought a way to memorialize him, so the following May the family gave away scholarships at the Fowlerville High School Senior Honors Night. One of the criteria was that the recipients played soccer, a sport the young boy loved.
The family continued presenting this scholarship to graduating seniors for the next several years, but funding it was becoming a challenge. Then in March of 2012, the Fowlerville Junior High Friends of Rachel group, with its teacher-advisor Amy Jarvis, decided to hold a Garage Sale & Fundraising Day as a service project. Their goal was to raise money for this scholarship.
Shown here is Amy Jarvis with a couple of items that will be in the Silent Auction.

Planning underway for Fowlerville High School Alumni Banquet on June 10
Plans for the 124th annual Fowlerville High School Alumni Banquet are underway. The event will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the high school.
“With the retirement of long time contributor and alumni treasurer, Thelma Rossetter (class of 1943) this past June, the organization has had to do some reorganizing,” said Alumni President Judy Recker. “Thelma was an endless source of historical information and contacts. Making contacts now is challenging for all of us since we were born a decade or more after Thelma!”
Classes planning to meet to celebrate their graduation anniversary should contact either Cindy (Ruttman) Krebs at 223-8747 or treasurer Ed Helzerman at 223-8783. Ticket prices will remain the same as in recent years: $15/advance and $20/door.
Fowlerville Alumni Association seeking donations to fund scholarship program
In 1974, officers of the Fowlerville Alumni Association establish the FHS Alumni Scholarship Program. Monies are raised yearly to enable the organization to present scholarships to members of the current Fowlerville High School graduating class.
During the 40-plus years of the scholarship, well over 125 young people have been recipients of this scholarship. The organization hopes to continue this tradition. Again this year, the Alumni Association will present four scholarships at the Senior Awards Night in May. Recipients are also recognized at the annual FHS Alumni Banquet which his year is being held on Saturday, June 10, at the high school cafeteria.
The scholarship fund is maintained through the many donations received in memory of loved ones who either were graduated from Fowlerville High or who maintained strong connections to the school such as a teacher, coach, bus driver, or supporter. Please feel free to make donations in any amount at any time during the year.
Some send donations yearly, while for others it is a one-time donation.
Donations should be sent to Coralene (Jackson) Bloss, 6346 Burkhart Dr., Howell MI 48855. Checks should be made out to the Fowlerville Alumni Association. To be recognized in the 2017 program, a donation should reach Coralene Bloss by May 10. Your generosity will not only help maintain the scholarship program but will help a graduating senior with college expenses.
