Community Bible Study at St. John’s seeks answers about "Vanishing Grace"
Is there grace out there? One wonders based on news broadcasts and the general state of affairs. Yet this is a primary gift from God and a key theme of Christian faith, not to be given up on.
St. John's Lutheran Church will host their annual Community Winter Bible Study entitled, "Vanishing Grace." It is based on the work of Philip Yancey who has continued writing on this theme beyond his classic work, "What's So Amazing About Grace?" to find the state of grace today.
Christians of the Lutheran tradition---and, indeed, all Christians---have long trusted in the teaching of God's grace as a necessary and abundant gift for the world and St. John's is especially interested in exploring it during this year, the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
The study will begin on Tuesday February 7 at 6:45 p.m. and run through March 7. A suggested fee for materials is $8 per person. St. John's Lutheran Church welcomes members of the greater Fowlerville community to this study.    If interested, register at 517-223-9108 or www.stjohnsfowlerville.org.

“Voters approved medical marijuana in a statewide initiative in 2008, but there have been some issues with local implementation of the measure.     Pollicella will speak at the regular monthly meeting of the Livingston County Democratic Party on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. at party headquarters, 8028 Grand River, Woodland Plaza Suite 7, Brighton, near the intersection with Hacker Road.

Democrat Gretchen Whitmer, a candidate for the party’s 2018 nomination for governor, will headline a rally planned by area progressive groups on this Saturday, Jan. 21. The gathering begins at 10 a.m. at the Brighton Mill Pond gazebo in downtown Brighton.
Livingston County Democrats said that the rally “is in support of protecting and expanding on the progress of the last eight years rather than rolling back the clock,” adding that “It is timed to coincide with events being held around the state and in Washington, D.C., the day after the inauguration of the new president, and represents an alternative for people who can’t afford the expense and time associated with traveling to the capital.”
“We want to let progressives in Livingston County know that there is something they can do right here to protect the progress made under President Obama and to fight to expand in the years ahead,” said Dan Luria, vice chair for strategy for the Livingston County Democratic Party and the coordinator of the rally.
“We not only won’t accept rolling back progress on health care, workers’ rights, responding to climate change, and women’s and LGBTQ rights, but we will be fighting to expand progressive programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare.”
The Rev. Deon Johnson, pastor of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, will give the invocation.
Whitmer, who served in the Michigan Legislature as a representative and then as a senator and more recently as the interim prosecuting attorney for Ingham County, recently announced her candidacy.
