‘No Kings’ rally in Howell reportedly drew over 2,200 people

A ‘No Kings’ rally in Howell, held on Saturday, Oct. 18th at the Historic Livingston County Courthouse, reportedly drew over 2,200 people.

The local event was organized by the League of Women Voters of Livingston County and was among the estimated 2,600 rallies that took place around the nation. The national organizers of the protest stated that the events were attended by around 7 million people.

While attendees expressed a number of concerns about the policies and actions of the current administration, the overriding theme of the marches was the accusation that President Trump is behaving more like a monarch than an elected official.

"Today, we welcomed all members of our community to join together in peaceful protest in support of our Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the rule of law," said Janice Karlovich, program director of the Livingston County LWV chapter. "Since 1776, America has had no kings and the power has always belonged to the people. Abducting immigrants without due process, deploying troops into our streets, cracking down on peaceful protestors, silencing voters, defying the courts. Together we reject this dark turn toward authoritarian rule. We thank everyone who came to our pro-Democracy rally today.” It marked the second massive wave of protests organized by ‘No Kings’—a network of progressive organizations fighting against Trump's agenda. The first nationwide event was held in June and drew a reported 5 million people.

The Trump Administration and its supporters condemned the protest and those taking part in statements made prior to and after the event, characterizing it as a ‘Hate America’ rally
