Tammie Marie Hughes
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tammie Marie Hughes, age 62, of Webberville. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend to many. Tammie went to be with the Lord on March 25, 2025, at McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.
Tammie was born on October 9, 1962, in Gaylord, Michigan, to Thomas and Donna (Maslowski) Mankowski. She spent her childhood and teenage years exploring the world with her three sisters, affectionately referred to as the "Mankowski girls." After graduating from St. Mary Cathedral School in 1980, Tammie pursued a career in the insurance industry.
In the summer of 1980, Tammie moved to Fowlerville, Michigan, where she met the love of her life, Douglas Edison Hughes. The couple married on April 19, 1986, and they described it as the best day of their lives. When you marry your best friend, partner, and soulmate, no day can compare to that special moment. Family and friends understood how special their relationship was; their love for one another was genuine and profound.
Tammie was a shining light in the lives of everyone she knew. Her journey through life was defined by love, compassion, understanding, strength, and wisdom, all grounded in her unwavering faith in God. Her passing will leave a profound void in the hearts of those she loved and cared for the most. To know Tammie was to know love, plain and simple. She embraced life fully, living each day as if it were her last. Family and friends could always rely on her to be there, no matter who they were or the occasion. Her beautiful smile lit up any room she entered, and she had a lovely and calming aura. Her zest for life was truly admirable.
Tammie valued her date nights with her husband, where they enjoyed dinners out and played her lucky Keno tickets. Her grandchildren were the center of her world, evident in her daily actions. No matter what she had planned, she would drop everything to be there for her son, daughter, and grandchildren. Tammie loved watching her oldest grandson, Keegan, play sports, and she enjoyed sledding with her granddaughter, Jamie. She cherished her snuggle time with her grandkids, Bryce, Elsie, and Carson. Tammie's hobbies included camping, playing bingo, golfing, shopping, playing cards, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Tammie is survived by her husband of 38 years, Douglas Hughes; son, Ryan (Karen) Hughes; daughter, Miranda (Jeffrey) James; grandchildren, Keegan, Jamie, and Carson Hughes; Bryce and Elsie James; and Ashlyn Kulas; sisters, Jackie (Bill) McShosh, Cindy (Rusty) Huff, and Kelly (Mike) Ford; sister-in-law, Cathy (Jeff) Elliott; brothers-in-law, Randy (Janice) Hughes and Floyd (Helen) Hughes; nieces and nephews, Jena (Adam) Daning, Lucas (Kellie) McShosh, Kaitlin (Adam) Kroll, Blake (Leah) Huff, Madeline McShosh, Hannah (Nick) Leech, Brandon (Madison) Huff, Jacob Ford, Ty Ford, Russell (Hallie) Elliott, Cody (Nikki) Elliott, Joshua (CJ) Elliott, Christalina Hughes, Tommy Hughes, Jason Hughes; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Donna Mankowski, and in-laws, Floyd and Donna Hughes.
An intimate ceremony will be held in April, and a Celebration of Life for family and friends is planned for the summer.
