Shirley Hayward
Shirley Hayward, age 86, gained her heavenly wings on July 29, 2023. Funeral services were held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, August 4, 2023 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, MacDonald Chapel in Howell. Pastor Jeff Howard officiated, with burial taking place afterwards in Greenwood Cemetery, Fowlerville. Shirley's family had receivee friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 - 7 pm and again Thursday one hour prior to the service.
Shirley was born on April 26, 1937 to William and Mabel (Forton) Smyth. She was the youngest of 18 children.
She is the beloved mother of Barbara Dillingham (Doug Kelley), Eugene (deceased 2022) (Vicki), Robert (Beverly), William Hayward, and Shirley (Scott) Hull. Survived by grandchildren: Joe (April) Monroe, Rebecca (Mike) Chambers, Jessica (Carlos) Rubio, James (Samantha) Hull, Megan (Kaleb) Mussell, David Hayward, Brian (Karen) Comer, Joseph Comer, and Stephanie Gartrell. Great-grandchildren: Michaela and Sydney Chambers, Joseph and Parker Monroe, Dominik and Lorenzo Rubio, Riley Mussell, Richard, Gregory & Johnny Comer. Shirley is also survived by brother Don (Donna) Smyth, several nieces and nephews, special friend, Peggy Geer and fur baby, Maggie.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Eugene of which they shared 65 years of marriage and infant daughters: Donna and Linda.
Shirley owned and operated Hayward Janitorial for over 60 years. She reluctantly retired at age 80 due to health issues.
