Evelyn Sefton
Evelyn Rozelle (Kummeth) Sefton made her heavenly journey on May 16, 2023. She was born on November 4, 1936 in Britton, South Dakota to George and Sabina Kummeth. Growing up in Minnesota, she graduated from Owatonna High School in 1954. She then earned her nursing degree in 1958 from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Mason City, Iowa.
Taking a chance on a blind date, Evelyn met and subsequently married the love of her life, Paul Sefton, on June 27, 1959. They moved to Fowlerville from Wabash, Indiana in 1970 with their brood of 7 children. Evelyn was a faithful friend, loving wife, and devoted mother, teaching her children The Fear of The Lord, integrity, to work hard, to put forth your best effort, and to love life. Her wisdom, humor, and wit were invaluable in gaining perspective even in the most challenging circumstances.
For 25 years Evelyn worked as a nursing supervisor at Howell's McPherson Hospital, bringing compassion and health care excellence to her patients as well as to the staff in her charge.
After retiring from the hospital, Evelyn continued to use her nursing license and skills working for Dr.s David and Robin Mika in Brighton until the age of 81.
She loved her children and grandchildren who all recognized her legendary skills at board games, cards, dice, trivia, bingo, and slot machines. She always had a story to tell, a song to sing, a poem to recite, or a quick-witted joke at the ready. She will be greatly missed by so many.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Frank, George, and Gene Kummeth, her sister Marge (Gordon) Besonen, her beloved husband Paul, as well as 2 of their sons, Michael and John Sefton.
Evelyn is survived by her sisters Irene (John) Wierzbinski and Marie (Len) Caesar, her sons Bruce Sefton and Thom Sefton, her daughters Susan (James) Mills, Kathleen (Michael) Tulgestke, and Barbara Sefton-Tabit, as well as 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved unconditionally.
The community farewell and celebration of life for Evelyn will take place on Monday, May 22, 2023 with a viewing from 4-7 p.m. at Herrmann Funeral Home in Fowlerville, with a rosary service beginning at 6:30p.m.
On Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 10 a.m. there will be another viewing opportunity followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Fowlerville.
