 Elwyn ‘Buck’ Louis Barker

On Sunday June 6, 2021, Elwyn “Buck” Louis Barker, loving father to two sons, a proud grandfather to six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, passed away peacefully at the age of 93. Elwyn was born March 31, 1928 in Fairfield Township to Louis Barker and Edna Reed-Barker-Routson.

At a young age he grew up on a farm and then graduated from Blissfield High School in 1945. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1948 and was given a hardship discharge to help on the farm. Then he was drafted in the Army from 1950-1952.

Lived in Adrian, Michigan working at Bridgeport Brass until 1962. Then he moved to Fowlerville to help his father run a raw buff factory, which was called BB&J, then eventually took charge of operations until closing in 1980. He also was a driver for harness race horsing in the 1960s and 1970s. Then the last 10 years of his career he was a truck driver. After that he took care of his mother until her passing.

Elwyn enjoyed watching all sports. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He attended the Fowlerville United Brethren Church.

He is survived by his son Keith (Sue) Barker; granddaughters Andrea Fila, Erica (Alex) Dethloff, Monica (Chris) Hunt, Maria (Jeff) Klingler and grandson Ben Barker; great grandsons Tyler Hunt, Trevor Hunt, Odin Fila, Arthur Fila, Mason Klingler, and Oliver Dethloff; great granddaughters Kylee Hunt, Madison Klingler, Ella Klingler, Isabella Barker and Hadlee Barker; and loving sister Mary Barker.

Preceded in death by his father and mother, a step-father, William Routson; brother, John Barker; sister, Luena Barker; son, Hugh Barker; granddaughter, Chelsea Barker; and a good friend Laura Davis.

In lieu of flowers please donate in Elwyn’s name to United Brethren Church in Fowlerville. Also a very special thank you to Kathy and Fred Davis who gave so much care to Elwyn through the years. Burial service will be in Fairfield Cemetery at a later date. Visitation was held on Thursday, June 10, 2021, with a service following at noon at Herrmann Funeral Home.
