Lydia Katherine Sommer
Lydia Katherine (“Kate”) Sommer (Parsons), age 93, of Fowlerville, was called home to heaven on Sunday, November 4, 2018.
She was born October 8, 1925, in Conway Township to J. Frank and Alma S. Parsons at the Parsons’ homestead.  She was proud to be the great-granddaughter of Conway’s original settlers, C.D. and E.M. Parsons, and loved the old homestead.  On October 26, 1944, she married the love of her life, Harold M. “Bubs” Sommer at her family’s home. They were married for 63 years until his death in 2008.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, housewife, and farm hand, who also worked at Curtis’ Grocery Store in Fowlerville, the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service (ASCS), Livingston County Equalization Department, Howell Livestock Auction and Sheridan’s Auctions.
Even though she experienced a lot of pain-filled days, she always had an optimistic outlook that tomorrow would be a better day.  She cared deeply for her family and others and readily offered guidance and comfort to many friends and residents at Medilodge and The Willows and was known for her smiling face.  She was a member of the Fowlerville First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three children:  Dennis (Brenda) Sommer, Frank L. Sommer, and Nancy (Mitch) Glover; three grandchildren: Jennifer Sommer (Craig Cole), Craig (Michelle) Sommer, and Peter Glover; and one great grandson, Nathan Sommer.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert W. (Harriett M.) Parsons, James A. Parsons, and Richard K. (Catherine) Parsons.
Visitation was held at Herrmann’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 7, from 5-8 p.m., and from 10–11 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, at the First United Methodist Church in Fowlerville.
Funeral services took place on Thursday, November 8, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fowlerville United Methodist Church, 201 S. Second Street. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in memory of Kate Sommer. Please leave the family a condolence at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com
