St. John’s Episcopal Church to serve Summer Picnic Style Dinner August 18

Patricia M. Lakey

    Patricia M. Lakey, of Fowlerville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Senior Living of Fowlerville, following a prolonged battle with dementia. She went to be with her Lord and Savior, and the loved ones who had passed before her including her first son David (Cheryl) Parkkila. 
    Surviving are her sons: Dan Parkkila, Shaun (Kristal) Parkkila, Eric (Theresa) Parkkila, and Tim (Ann) Parkkila. Also her much loved grandchildren and great grandchildren. 
She loved her family and her profession in which she spent 54 years giving love and compassion as a registered nurse. She also loved walking her dog Baxter. 
    Pat was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fowlerville, and loved playing the piano and singing. 
    Those who knew her were touched by her kindness and her love for everyone. She will be missed by many. 
    There will be a memorial service at Herrmann Funeral Home in Fowlerville today, Sunday, July 30, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation at 1:00 p.m. Please leave the family a condolence at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com

Michigan State Police’s Brighton Post seeking “Angel” Volunteers
    To assist people struggling with addiction and reduce drug demand, the Michigan State Police (MSP) has joined almost 200 police departments nationwide in the Angel Program, a pre-arrest diversion program. The Angel Program allows someone with a drug addiction to walk into a state police post to seek help for their addiction, without the fear of arrest or investigation. 
    MSP is expanding this program to the Brighton Post and is recruiting volunteers who wish to provide support to participants, including transportation to treatment. 
    Interested volunteers must complete an application available from the post. Volunteers must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and live within one hour of the post, among other requirements. Volunteers receive training prior to any assignments, and will be reimbursed for mileage and meals.
    If you are interested in learning more about the program or becoming an Angel Volunteer, please contact the MSP Brighton Post at 810-227-1051.
    The Angel Program is supported by P.A.A.R.I. (the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative). It originally began in Gloucester, Mass. in 2015. The MSP plans to continue expansion of the program across the state throughout 2017.  

Livingston Centre Historic Village committee to meet this Thursday, Aug. 3
    The next meeting of the Livingston Centre Historic Village will be Thursday, August 3, 7:00 p.m. in the Fowlerville Fair Office. Discussion will include reports from Fair week. Volunteer docents welcomed many fair-goers to the historic buildings who stopped in to learn about Livingston County history. Members are very grateful for all the interest; it was especially delightful to have the Kirkland House open once again. 
    Plans continue to be made for the Sept. 30 Fall Festival. Vendors, local crafters, entertainment and fun activities for the entire family will be offered at the Historic Village inside the Fowlerville Fairgrounds. The buildings will be open to visitors again that day. 
    New members are always welcome. If you have an interest in local history, come and meet other committee members who work to preserve and maintain the structures at the Livingston Centre Village.

The Concerts at the Courthouse features Alan Turner & the Steel Horse Band
    Alan Turner & the Steel Horse Band will be performing at this week’s Concerts at the Courthouse. The show will be Friday, August 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Historic Howell Courthouse Amphitheater at 200 E. Grand River.
   This is a free series of concerts presented by the Livingston Arts Council throughout the summer, featuring rock, folk and blues entertainment at an outdoor family (and pet)-friendly venue. Pack a blanket or chair, and bring a snack or eat at one of Howell’s many downtown restaurants before enjoying the evening’s entertainment!
    Not since Garth Brooks jumped off the stage and into people’s hearts has the country scene delivered such riveting entertainment as southeastern Michigan’s Alan Turner and his Steel Horse Band. His connection with his fans makes him stand out, and his rugged good looks and rich baritone vocals often have him touted as “Tim McGraw with a Toby Keith attitude.” 
    Across the USA and into Canada, Alan and his band have been thrilling crowds with distinctly high-energy country with a pumping rock’n’roll sound that no-one delivers better. From Alan jumping off stage to sing and dance with the fans, to the driving beat of a very confident and talented Steel Horse Band, you definitely don’t want to miss a show.
