Walter will be deeply missed by his dog, Bailey. He always had a special bond with his siblings Mike, Dale, Mark, Thomas, Todd, and Dawn, who will remember him as the cornerstone of their family.

Livingston Land Conservancy to hold 20th ‘Land on the Horizon’ Event

Twenty years after hosting its first grassroots event in an aircraft hangar, the Livington Land Conservancy’s annual live fundraiser ‘Land on the Horizon’ is set for Friday, Oct. 11, at Chemung Hills Golf and Banquet Center in Howell.

The event, which begins at 7:00pm, is fun, fast-paced and lively, featuring live and silent auctions, raffles, a wine pull, a chef-prepared dinner buffet and cash bar.

The evening will celebrate the natural beauty and rural character of the Livingston County area and support the over 750 acres of quality natural areas and productive farmland properties the LLC protects. The Conservancy preserves land as owned nature preserves or as conservation easements on behalf of private landowners.

Highlights of the evening will include a presentation on the Conservancy’s recent Charles & Albert Parker Families Nature Preserve Restoration and Public Access Project owned by the Brighton District Library, and an update on pending land protection projects.

Individual tickets are $75 each (if purchased by September 27; $85 each after) and can be purchased at livingstonlandconservancy.org or by calling 810-229-3290. Sponsors and donated auction items are also still being accepted. All net proceeds from the event go the Conservancy’s Land Acquisition and Stewardship funds that support 17 different protected properties in Livingston County. Locally these include Northumberland Nature Preserve in Handy Township and Red Cedar Run Nature Preserve in Conway Township

An all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in 1994, the Livingston Land Conservancy mission is to protect the natural heritage and rural character of the greater Livingston County area by preserving natural lands and productive farmland, and to promote an appreciation and understanding of the environment for the long-term benefit of the public. The organization is completely self-supporting by memberships and donations and receives no financial funding from taxpayers or municipalities.  Gregory William Stage

Gregory William Stage, 53 of Fowlerville, MI passed away unexpectedly at home on August 16, 2024.

While Greg tended to be a homebody type, he would also be known for taking long drives and exploring. This would lead to many culinary adventures and he became proficient for critiquing pizza across the State of Michigan. You would likely find him following football, the University of Michigan and the sport of golf. A trip to the casino was always a great getaway and spending time with family and close friends meant more to him than most realized.

After graduating from High School in Fowlerville, Greg enjoyed working at a variety of jobs over the years, the food service industry landed him in Wyoming, Ohio as well as local positions. He traveled the country delivering RV’s. Worked as a general laborer. Anything to keep busy and contribute.

He will be missed by loving parents Floyd and Carol (Petteys) Stage, sister Amy (Richard) Kirchen, aunts Rachel Dickie and Jenell Stage, cousins Kay (Ed) Latson, Lori Stage, Tim (Patty) Stage, Lindsay Dickie, Katie (Micah) Wilson, all their children, and many friends.

 Peggy JoAnn Hall

Peggy JoAnn Hall, aged 71, passed away on August 18th, 2024, following a brief illness. Born on July 5th, 1953, Peggy was the cherished daughter of the late Robert D. and Gloria E. (Dieterle) Hall and the beloved granddaughter of Julia E. Dieterle.

Peggy graduated from Fowlerville High School, after which she began working for (and retired from) the State of Michigan. Starting in the mental health field, then moving on to the MDHHS distribution department. Her commitment to her work was just a small example of her strength and dedication.

Beyond her commitment to her work, Peggy was a devoted family member and friend. Her sense of humor and generosity were as big as her heart, both of which made lasting impressions on those around her. With her outgoing personality, kind, caring and supportive nature, she easily developed strong, lasting relationships with people young and old. She is now, and always will be, missed and remembered by so many. Above all else, Peggy’s devotion and commitment to her family was unmatched.

She is survived by her siblings, Craig (Marie) Hall, Pat (Carol) Hall, Chris (Rob) Hall, Pam (Jim Millsaps) Schoettle and Cathy Hall. She was the Proud Aunt to Nieces Christina (Dan) Lafrancis, Ally (Rodney) Chase, Zoey Foss and Nephews James (Megan) Hall and Dillon Foss, as well as Great-Aunt to Chloe, Tatum, Hailee, Izzie, Kendra, Hunter, Brooklyn, Charlotte and Zachary.

She is preceded in death by her Brother-in-law Jack Schoettle.

Peggy loved spending time with her family, She especially looked forward to their weekly dinner dates. As well as her weekly lunch dates with old friends. Pizza and game nights with “The Girls”. Rooting for her favorite sports teams, especially the MSU basketball teams and the Detroit Lions. She also loved watching the birds and squirrels that she kept well-fed outside her big window.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the Howell Nature Center in Peggy’s name.

There will be a Celebration of Life luncheon at the Conway Township Hall on Sunday, September 8th, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, for all who wish to attend. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Consumers Energy is moving forward with an expanded customer-powered clean energy effort that will lower costs and help protect the planet after receiving approval from the Michigan Public Service Commission.

Consumers Energy’s new Renewable Energy Program will enable every household and business to match 100% of their energy use with cost-effective wind and solar power. The new programs will roll out in 2025. Consumers Energy customers can learn more and sign up for updates at ConsumersEnergy.com/renewablehome.

Highlights of Consumers Energy’s customer-powered proposal:

The existing large business program is now open for everyone to participate, giving residential and small business customers an option to sign up for cost-effective, utility-scale renewable energy projects.

Green Giving –This new programwill allow subscribers to pass along clean energy benefits to others. This would be a path for businesses, nonprofits, charitable foundations or individuals to share program benefits with friends, family, tenants, staff or to help low-income neighbors in need. This offering has a dedicated focus to support those whoreceive this giftto enjoy the financial and environmental benefits from wind and solar projects that Consumers Energy develops.

 Clara Jean Woods

Clara Jean Woods, age 86, passed away August 8th, 2024. She was born to Lola (Thomas) and Laster Craft in Letcher, Kentucky on August 3rd, 1938.

Life took her North, away from the Appalachian hills, but the southern drawl of her speech always stayed with her, gracious and melodic as the music and manner of the South.

Clara grew up in a large family with strong connections, big personalities, and lots of love. She shared these values, and many others, with her own family. Her love and dedication to family was absolute, and they all adored her for it.

Perhaps it was her girlhood among the hills that inspired her love for gardening. Clara always had a vision for the spaces she inhabited, indoor and out. She loved seeing her plans come to life. For many years, she and her beloved husband, Kyle, worked together to create and maintain beautiful homes and gardens. Lupines, columbines, and irises were among her favorite flowers.

In keeping with her affinity for aesthetics, Gigi (as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to call her) enjoyed shopping. Gigi did not “get dressed”. Gigi put on an outfit. She was styled from head-to-toe, shoes, socks, and jewels included. Always.

Clara was a devout Christian. She loved attending church services and offering up her praise in song. We’ll all remember her high-lonesome voice singing her favorite hymns and Christmas Carols.

She taught us all the power of love and acceptance, creativity, and devotion. Kyle, her “Honey”, was the foundation of her love and family for the 66 years of their marriage. They enjoyed playing Skipbo together, watching birds, and appreciating their gardens. Their commitment to each other was a grounding force for the family.

If ever you needed a supportive companion whether for a trip to the mall, or a new venture in life, you knew Gigi would join you with gusto. Her curiosity, support and enthusiasm were unwavering. Clara loved to get out and go.

We are thankful that, now, she has gone to join her beloved Savior, and many family members. While we will miss her intensely, we will also rest easier under her watchful grace from heaven.

She is an orphan girl no more.

Clara is survived by her sister Phyllis (Jim) Klugiewicz, her brother Lester (Brenda) Craft, her children: Randy (Sue) Woods, Sandy (Ed) Cebery, Tammy Woods, Scott (Amanda) Woods, her grandchildren: Jamie (Jim) Fredenburg, Kari (Kevin) Branoff, Jennifer (Justin) Darnell, Kyle Pryce, Sara Woods, Josh Woods, Edward (Ashley) Buczkowski, Adam Woods (Jessica) and great-grandchildren: Bella, Celia, Juniper, LaVerne, Kylie, Devyn, Gavin, Easton, Kasen, Madeleine, Nicholas, Lola, Calix, Elle, and Emberlynn.

Clara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Kyle Paul Woods.

St. Agnes Parish to host Tri-Festa August 23-24

Lots of great events are planned for this year's annual St. Agnes Parish Tri-Festa on Friday and Saturday, August 23-24. The public is invited to attend.

Each of the three components will offer a meal, kids meal, ice cream cart, raffle tickets, and silent auction bidding. Save $5 and purchase a Meal Bundle early for just $30, which will allow you to eat at all threeevents! These can be purchased through the parish office using cash, check or card.

Friday night we'll kick off with dancing under the pavilion, our Cornhole Tournament (register through the office for $10/person or $20/team - prizes to top winners), and a version of our famous Knights of Columbus FISH FRY! No need to wait until Lent begins as fish lovers can stop in August 23rd from 5-7pm (or until sold out, which is known to happen) to enjoy either a baked or fried fish dinner. You'll be hooked! Also enjoy some outdoor games including additional cornhole boards and volleyball.

Saturday dawns another beautiful day from the Lord with a mouthwatering bar of pancakes and french toast, alongside fresh omelets made-to-order and icey juices. At 10am our Baked Goods BINGO gets into full swing. We've had many people excited for this event, and your winning cards are just waiting for their markers.

While brunch is finishing up, we'll start the golfing and outdoor games. See if you can get closest to the golf target, while games of volleyball, bowling, and kiddie yard games are played. Our first annual Pie Baking Contest judging is at 12:30pm; all are welcome to enter. Register for free through the parish office by August 23. We have a stellar, locally-made trophy for the champion!

Pie slice sales will follow judging and the top three winning pies will be sold at the Saturday evening's live auction. If you're craving blue-ribbon winning, homemade and flaky crust, with the most superb pie filling...you can't miss this! Finally, kids bikes and pool package raffle winners will be drawn; every child will receive one free entry. Need not be present to win.

After the Lord's Mass at 4:30pm, we'll begin our final leg of the Tri-Festa. After getting our souls fed, we'll then feed our bellies at the International Dinner. Enjoy sliders, fresh-made egg rolls, Tiramisu, and more (all food items available while supplies last). The silent auction baskets begin closing shortly before our LIVE Auction begins at 7pm.

Item lineup includes a whole Champion Blue Ribbon Winning Pie, hayride/bonfire/picnic for 15 people, golfing package, Frankenmuth overnight, Party Package for rollerskating/bumper cars/laser tag, rare bourbon set, Lions/Tigers/Red Wings tickets, date night (with babysitting), Wharton Center play tickets, a bass fishing trip, and more! Register for a bidder number and you'll be entered for a chance to Pie the Priest! Can't make the live or silent auctions? No problem! Contact the parish office to enter your bids and we'll do the work for you.

After the live auction, we'll (drumroll) draw our 15 winners of our BIG RAFFLE! The night will close with our beloved priest courageously getting a pie (or two...) to the face, all in the spirit of joyful fun and support for our beloved community and parish. Prayers and thanksgiving to our current 92 DONORS and the many, many hands that are volunteering to make this yearly event possible. We appreciate such a supportive community, and welcome you all to our family fun this August 23-24th.

 Kathleen Janis

Kathleen Janis peacefully made her final transition so that she could go home to her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, on the evening of July 29, 2024, sadly succumbing to the complications of dementia and other neurological conditions. A lifelong resident of Michigan, she was born and raised in Detroit, and spent approximately equal time living in both Detroit and the village of Fowlerville. She lived for five years in the city of White Lake with her late husband Daniel John, and then later moved back to Fowlerville in her last few years to be around several friends and family, so that she could be in close proximity and within a stone’s throw of some of the people she deeply cherished and loved.

Kathy is survived by her four children Jane, Zakk, Lance (Heidi) and Christina, and her four grandchildren Ethan, Ella, Mya, and Remy. She is also survived by her niece Diana (Bey) and sister-in-law Charo. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Elsie, and her brothers Lawrence and John.

Throughout her lifetime, Kathleen Janis enjoyed many activities and hobbies: gardening, cooking and baking, fishing, shopping, collecting oodles of all kinds of stuff, spending ample amounts of quality time with friends and family, walking, frequenting casinos, playing loud music and attending even louder concerts, swimming in her in-ground pool with the help of kiddie arm floaties, and throwing all kinds of both small and large soirées, because hosting parties was a penchant of hers.

She wasn’t a fan of just watching life happen; Kathy usually found a way to grab ahold of it and run like the wind. She lived her life to the best of her ability, and usually did so with the energy and passion of a ball of fire. The woman could run circles around most people, and many found themselves often struggling to keep up with her. Like many, her life in this existence was short but usually sweet. She loved having children, adored and worshipped her grandchildren, and if she had things her way, she’d had given birth to ten times the offspring she did.

For over two decades, Kathy was officially and fondly known as The Rock n’ Roll Bus Driver of Fowlerville. It’s a title bestowed upon her that she absolutely deserved and revered, since she was wildly successful at educating and immersing countless Fowlerville youth in the music and life of a little-known entertainer, Elvis Presley. Rumor has it that parents used to call the bus garage to voice their displeasure if their kids weren’t on her route anymore if she was assigned to a new one. Getting children safely to and from school and home was her occupation, and word on the street is that she was pretty good at it.

While our hearts mourn the loss of this once vivacious and energetic human, we take comfort in knowing she is free from the suffering and symptoms of the disease that shortened her lifespan. In honor of her final wishes, she requested a private funeral for family, and then to be laid to rest in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fowlerville, next to her beloved husband Danny, and also her Benkovich family that left this world before her.

Any donations made in memory of Kathy can be made to The Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s, an organization created for patients and their care team, including their care partners, family, friends, physicians, and therapists.

Arrangements entrusted to Herrmann Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com

 Lorraine Anastasia McGill

Lorraine McGill, age 80, of Fowlerville, MI, peacefully left this earth to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on July 15, 2024. She was born in Detroit on December 22, 1943, to the late Jacob and Tekla Warezak.

She is survived by her husband, Robert McGill, children Lawrence Kuriwchak, David(Marilyn) McGill, Christine Schell, Dan(Lori) Kuriwchak, Karen (Fred) Bailey, and Donna McGill, grandchildren Amanda, Jessica, Benjamin, Jonathan, Katlyn, Christina, Lane, Thomas, and Nicole. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Wanda Warezak, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Widmann, brother Ronald Warezak, and late husband, Eugene Kuriwchak.

Before she was affected by Alzheimer's disease, she enjoyed 30 years of active adventures with her husband, Robert. She loved spending time with her family playing cards, tending her flower and vegetable gardens, and making sure her birds always had full birdfeeders. She was an avid crafter, completing many different needlepoint projects, including several entirely hand-stitched quilts.

She showed her thoughtfulness in simple ways, such as mailing out a birthday card to her loved ones so she could stay in touch. Her family and friends will always remember

her for her love of music, Bible study, and prayer. She and her husband Robert regularly attended Place of Refuge Ministries in Fowlerville.

A Celebration of Life memorial will take place at Place of Refuge Ministries, 6909 E. Grand River, Fowlerville, MI 48836 on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Visiting will begin at 10 AM. The service will begin at 11 AM.

Arrangements entrusted to Herrmann Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com.
