Linsey Anne Ebert
On Tuesday, February 14th, 2023 Linsey Anne Ebert, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend passed away in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Linsey was born on September 12th, 1977 to Randy and Cecelia (Turner) Ebert in Howell, MI.
She graduated from Fowlerville High School in 1995 with academic honors and a full ride scholarship for volleyball to the University of Michigan. Linsey traveled the world with Athletes In Action playing volleyball and ministering to children in developing nations including Peru and Poland.
While at U of M, Linsey led the team in stats, was named a star player and in 1997 helped lead the Wolverines to their first appearance in the NCAA tournament in volleyball. Her Michigan coach Coach Giovanazzi said, “…Maybe Michigan’s best blocker ever, Linsey can really control the net. She is explosive, attacking, and has a very quick arm. I am impressed with her ability to play the whole game: she is out there to win and that is her No. 1 focus.”
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from U of M in 1999 in Biology, Anthropology, and Zoology. Her first job after graduating included dedicated research at U of M. After U of M, she began work at the Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, where she earned her MA in Religion. She then earned a second MA in Secondary Teaching in 2008 from Trinity and, along the way, also earned an additional Social Science and middle school teaching certifications.
Linsey then found her next love, which was teaching. Her first teaching job was in Waukegan, Illinois, at Jack Benny Middle School where Linsey made her first imprint on her students. In Waukegan, she had the opportunity to teach the underserved and underprivileged student population. This experience led Linsey back to Dansville, Michigan. Linsey embodied everything the Dansville community stood for and more. She poured every part of her heart and soul into building a better school and community, but most importantly, into every one of her students. Anyone who had Linsey as a teacher can tell you she expected the very best out of them, and through her love and dedication, showed them how to be that best person they could be. There was never any doubt in any of her students’ minds that she cared about them as if they were her own.
Linsey also had an infectious personality, drawing in the colleagues she worked so closely with in her years at Dansville. She had a unique way of making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the world when she spoke to them; brought them on as some of her best friends; and made them a part of her family. Linsey left a mark on her students, fellow staff members, and the community that will never be forgotten.
On the rare occasion Linsey did take some time for herself, she found joy in spending time cheering on her nieces and nephews in their various activities; spending time with her friends; and enjoying every moment with her family, who were the most important people in the world to her. She was also the embodiment of learning and educating herself, and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t read or study. Linsey was a walking news channel—she knew something about everything, and you never had to ask her opinion about it. She was on a mission to change the world to make sure everyone was treated equally. On a little lighter side, if there is one thing that would have tied some of Linsey’s more unique interests together, it would have been Justin Timberlake and Robert Pattinson dressed as Ninja Turtles while riding llamas.
Linsey is survived by her mother and father Cecelia and Randy Ebert; sister Tonya (David) Defever; nieces and nephews Tyler, Emily, Aaron, Maggie, Mitchell and Grace; great-niece CeCe; fur-daughter Dottie Anne; and countless family, friends, students, and colleagues. She is preceded in death by her Aunt Carby and Aunt Sheila; her grandparents Irving and Delores Ebert, and Don and Jean Turner.
Visitation was be held at Herrmann Funeral Home in Fowlerville from 2:00p.m.-7:00p.m. on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023. On Friday, February 24th, a funeral service was held at the Dansville Middle School gym at 10:30 am. Those attending either or both were urged to wear their Dansville Aggie and/or U of M Wolverine attire.
