Fowlerville High School Thespians to perform dramatic comedy March 18-20
After a three-year hiatus, Fowlerville High School Thespians are triumphantly returning to the Alverson Center for Performing Arts stage with a performance of She Kills Monsters on March 18-20.
She Kills Monsters tells the story of high school senior Agnes Evans as she deals with the tragic loss of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes discovers Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge.
This high-octane dramatic comedy is laden with savage faeries, brutal ogres, ‘90’s pop culture, and a lesson in true friendship. The performance also offers heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.
Two years ago, nearly 100 Fowlerville drama students spent months working on their 2020 production, only to have their hopes of putting on that play dashed when it was canceled on opening night due to the pandemic shutdown. Among them were current seniors Maddy Woods, Mason Ellis-Bensinger and Vanessa Woods who are starring in the upcoming play.
Maddy portrays the heroine Agnes, with Mason as her sister Tilly and Vanessa as her best friend Vera. Each of these young actresses is more than ready to shine with this opportunity.
Since January, they and the rest of the cast and crew have been working diligently on learning the rules of Dungeons & Dragons, memorizing lines, building set pieces and practicing countless hours of stunt and stage combat choreography. This year’s high school play is about rising up after tragedy, rooting for the underdog and being true to loved ones. She Kills Monsters should not be missed!
Performances start at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 18-19 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 20. Tickets will be available at the door.
