Just a reminder for our 3rd Grade students.  Kreeger lockers are very narrow.  Please try to purchase smaller back packs.  Large back packs will not fit in our lockers.

Webberville UMC presents its 3rd annual melodrama August 18-19
    The Webberville UMC Players, a group of local actors, will be presenting “Peril on the Mighty Mississippi” this coming weekend.  There will be a show Friday, August 18th at 7:00 and 2 shows Saturday, August 19th, at 3:30 and 7:15.  Tickets are available at the door.  The show is $5 per person, with a discount of $2 on Saturday if purchased with a chicken dinner meal.
    Come see the villains try to steal and cheat their way to glory and the young hero save the day, along with much comedy relief by other players in the show.  With hysterical (and constant!) asides, you will love this traditional melodrama in a fresh and fun setting.  “Peril on the Might Mississippi”, written by Donald Mellen, is produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc., Denver, Colorado. 
   The Webberville United Methodist Church is located at 4215 E. Holt Rd., at the corner of M-52.

The Fowlerville District Library will be closed Saturday, September 2nd-Monday, September 4th to observe Labor Day Weekend. We will reopen Tuesday, September 5th at 9:30am. The Little Free Library is available for your reading needs during this time and any materials to be returned can be placed in the blue drop box. Have a safe holiday!

Pokémon Go Safari: Wednesday, August 16th at 6pm-8pm
All Ages. Grab your devices and meet outside the library for a Pokémon Go competition! Compete against your friends to walk the most kliometers, catch the most Pokémon, and hatch the most eggs during the time limit! Feel free to walk or ride a bike. *Register in person to attend. Registration begins August 2nd. Children 12 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Teens 13 and older must have a signed Program Permission Form or be accompanied by an adult.

Steeped Tea Presentation- Thursday, August 17th at 7pm
Adults. Join us at the library for a presentation and tasting on the art behind making custom tea blends. *Registration begins August 3rd and includes a refundable $5 cash deposit.

Paint and Pour: Pure Michigan- Thursday, August 24th at 7pm
Adults. Join us at the library for the return the popular “Paint and Pour” program where you will be led by professionals to create your very own Michigan themed painting.*Register in person to attend. Registration begins August 10th and includes a refundable $5 cash deposit.

Registration begins for From A to Z with Mrs. D Wednesday, September 6th
Kids 2-4 yrs and their adult helper. From A-Z with Mrs. D is a pre-school program, each group meets once a week for the entire fall season. Groups start Tuesday, September 26th and Wednesday, September 27th at 10am and 11am. Spaces are limited and are filled on a first come, first served basis. *Register in person only.

Mario Kart Tournament Friday, September 8th at 5-8pm
Teens 6th-12th grades. Come to the library to play Mario Kart on the new Nintendo Switch! You can also play Mario Kart Wii and make your own pins and perler bead crafts! Pizza and a beverage will be served. *Register in person to attend. Registration is required and includes a 2017-2018 signed Program Permission Form. Registration begins August 25th.

Build a Robot Workshop- Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30-7:30pm
Kindergarten-8th grades. Come to the library for a robot exploration led by robot experts from The Mentors Robot Shop. Participate in hands on activities with a variety of robots and learn how robots are used in our everyday lives! *Participation is limited. Register in person to attend. Registration begins August 30th.

Beyond the Book: One Thousand White Women Thursday, September 14th at 7pm

Oak Grove United Methodist Men holding Chicken BBQ on August 26
   Oak Grove United Methodist Men invite you to their annual Chicken BBQ on Saturday, August 26, from 5-7 pm at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 6686 Oak Grove Rd., Howell (5 miles north of M-59). Come enjoy a delicious meal of barbecued chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, corn and desserts for a free-will donation. For more information, contact Dennis at 517-548-3818.

57th Annual Howell Melon Festival takes place this Friday thru Sunday 
   Rise & Shine, its Melon Festival Time!  The Howell Melon Festival is a 57-year-old community tradition and home to a multitude of amazing events and entertainment like the Annual Howell Melon Run, live music, delicious food, and so much more!  The event starts this Friday, August 18, and continues thru Sunday, August. 20. Suzanne Grace Wiles (Hayner)

   Suzanne Grace (Nichols) Wiles (Hayner), 70, of Fowlerville, passed away on Tuesday August 01, 2017 in Fowlerville. 
    Suzanne was born in Howell Michigan to Gloria (DeForest) and Gordon Nichols on Sept. 29, 1946. She married Jerry Joel Wiles in August of 1965. She retired from TRW in 2008, and was a member of United Brethren Church and lifetime auxiliary member of the VFW post 6464 in Fowlerville. Proudly, she earned her GED in 1987. Suzanne loved her flower gardens, feeding the birds, and a special squirrel that ate peanuts from her hand. Sue and her husband, Mike, have two beloved dogs--Sally and Rosco. 
    Suzanne is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry Joel Wiles on July 28, 2004 and her son Stanley Allen Wiles on April 19, 1971. 
    Suzanne is survived by her husband Michael James Hayner and two dogs Sally and Rosco. She is also survived by her brothers: Richard Nichols, Douglas Nichols, Gordon “Lee” Nichols and sister: Betty (Nichols) Smith. Suzanne has a son Kevin Joel Wiles (Heather Zofko-Wiles) and a daughter Wendy Anne (Wiles) Roy (Larry Allen Roy). Her grandchildren are Harley Allen Hollnagel (Kaylee Herbert), Brandon Lee Wiles (Taylor Levoska), Aaron Junior Roy (Corinne Simons), Logan George Bills and Kylie Lynn Bills. Her great grandchildren are Holley Rae Hollnagel and Kaycee Mae Hollnagel. 
    The family has a memorial fund for Suzanne payable to her husband James Michael Hayner. 
   Visitation was held at United Brethren Church 9300 W. Grand River Ave. on Monday, August 07, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service was held at United Brethren Church, first by the VFW Post 6464 and followed by Pastor Tom Tarpley of the United Brethren Church at 11:00 a.m. 
   Suzanne was cremated and will be laid to rest in Bell Oak Cemetery alongside her husband Jerry Wiles and son Stanley Wiles at a later date. 
   The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Herrmann Funeral Home, Pastor Tom Tarpley of United Brethren Church and the membership of the VFW Post 6464 in Fowlerville. Please leave the family a condolence at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com

Darrel LeRoy ‘Skip’ Rice

Darrel LeRoy Rice, May 26, 1940 -- August 4, 2017
    Darrel (Skip) Rice, born in Hillsdale, MI to Marion and Edna Rice, passed peacefully in his Fowlerville home, surrounded by his immediate family. He was predeceased by his parents, an infant twin brother, Gerald, elder brother, Richard (Eva), and sister, Mary Ann (Bert) Rigney. 
    Along with his wife and children, Darrel (known as “Skip,” a childhood nickname given by his father) is survived by loving sister, Judy Hartman, granddaughters, Emma and Hannah, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. 
   After graduation from Reading High School, Skip continued his education at several colleges, earning degrees from Central Michigan and Michigan State University. His college attendance was interrupted by enlistment in the United States Air Force, including service in Saigon during the Vietnam War. He married Susan Jane Hartman (South Lyon) in 1969, after which they added daughter, Rebecca, and son, Andrew (Eileen) to their family.
    Skip began his teaching career in 1969 as a science and photography instructor at Brighton High School, Brighton, MI. After 25 years, he felt called into Christian ministry and attended seminary classes in Kentucky and Ohio. He then served for over five years as pastor of the United Methodist Livingston Circuit (Trinity and Plainfield Churches). Declining health prompted a second retirement during which time he enjoyed traveling (especially to Arizona), being a grandpa, and observing nature from his rural home. 
    Celebration of life gatherings included visitation at Herrmann Funeral Home in Fowlerville, MI with military honors on Friday, August 11 from 6-8 p.m. and a final farewell at Howell United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 12,  which included a 10 a.m. visitation and 11 a.m. service. 
    In lieu of flowers, it was Skip’s wish that memorials be made to the Brighton High School Scholarship Fund or the Howell First United Methodist Church Building Fund. Please send the family a condolence at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com
