Fowlerville to hold Independence Day parade & fireworks on Sunday, July 5th

Fowlerville will hold its annual Independence Day parade and fireworks display on Sunday, July 5th. The parade will begin west of town at Veterans Drive, proceed along Grand River through the Downtown, and end up at the St. Agnes Catholic Church parking lot.

Line-up on Veterans Drive begins at 6pm. No reservations are required to participate.

The fireworks display begins at dusk, a little after 10pm. The Fowlerville Community Park and the Fowlerville Fairgrounds are popular viewing sites. The Fowlerville UB Church on West Grand River and the school grounds are other options.

The 4th of July Committee announced earlier this month that their longtime fireworks vendor had declined to put on the display, explaining that “its resources had been committed to larger events associated with the nation’s 250th anniversary.” This notification was given on May 28th, too late for the group to secure a display from another vendor on July 4th.

The decision was made to move the local event back a day and, in doing so, the committee was able to contract with a fireworks company to put on the display.

They are also a premier sponsor of Livingston County’s 250th Anniversary Fireworks Celebration that will take place on Saturday, July 4th at the Howell Public Schools West Campus (the same site as the Balloonfest). Organizers have planned several activities during this event in addition to the fireworks display.

This is the 50th anniversary of the Fowlerville 4th of July Celebration, with the first local event being held in 1976 as part of the nation’s Bi-Centennial observance.

By lending its support to the 250th celebration in neighboring Howell and still putting on the local event, albeit a day after the holiday, the committee felt this would allow residents and visitors “to enjoy two days of patriotic festivities while preserving Fowlerville's traditional parade and fireworks display.”
