Robert J. Coll
Robert J. "Bob" Coll—a resident of Louisville, Kentucky who grew up in Fowlerville—lived a fulfilling life from his beginning in Howell, Michigan, September 1951, with his mother, Anna Mae Miller (deceased), father, Gordon Coll (deceased) and sister, Judith Estfan. He attended Fowlerville High School, Class of 1969, before packing up for Vietnam to serve his country at the age of 17. As a duster for the U.S. Army, he earned a multitude of honors and medals. He was the Quartermaster of the VFW and commander of the American Legion in Rockford, MI.
Bob was a storyteller; he had the ability to leave you hanging on to every word and dictation. An embodiment of the term entrepreneur, Bob often spoke of business ventures. After graduating from college in Lansing, he climbed the corporate ladder to success as an executive and multiple business owner. A passion for hot-rods and a mechanical inclination would lead him to a strong community of like-minded individuals and one too many projects. He loved to hunt among friends and rescued his beloved dog, Monty, out in the wilderness.
In his 69th year, he died, January 2020, after a tenacious battle with pancreatic cancer. He was blessed with Kimberly "Kim" Coll: his wife and loving caregiver until the time of his death. He raised two sons, Nicholas "Nic" Coll and Vincent "Vinnie" Coll alongside their mother, Karen Coll. He took special pride in his role of 'Grandpa Bob' to Aidan, Coley, Trevor, and Cassie.
Robert J. Coll's life is a living example of kind action. His strong values and vivacious personality allowed him to connect with people and inspired him to give generously to others.      Bob will be forever remembered by his many true and loyal friends.
It is his wishes that donations be made to the VA hospital in lieu of flowers.
A ‘Celebration of Life’ is being held for Bob on Monday,  January 27th, at Owen Funeral Home on Dixie Highway in Louisville, Kentucky. Visiting hours are from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. followed by a service at 1 p.m. From there, a military burial will take place at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff.

Acoustic Café to feature Matthew Ball & his boogie-woogie music on Jan. 31
This year’s series at the Acoustic Café continues this Friday, Jan. 31, with Matthew Ball, aka the Boogie-Woogie Kid as the featured performer. The concert is held at The Howell Opera House.
Called the 'fastest fingers in the Mid-west,' Matthew performs an upbeat program of Boogie-n-Blues, Jazz & Ragtime favorites from the Swing-dancin' era of the 20’s, 30’s, & 40’s, with arrangements of American classics like Ain't Misbehavin’, When the Saints Go Marchin’ In, Over the Rainbow, Basin Street Blues, Bumble Boogie, The Entertainer, Glory of Love, and more!  Matthew also writes and sings songs in the spirit of the Era as well.
Ball's start in Jazz only began in 2001! A former attorney, Matthew left the practice after he attended a hometown boogie-woogie festival.  He was so awestruck by the performances he saw that night, he left his career as an attorney to become a blues & boogie-woogie performing artist.  With a lot of time, work, and effort over the next few years Ball would reach a breakthrough in 2005 with a career-launching performance at the exclusive Arches Piano Stage in Cincinnati where he shared the stage with some of the same musicians that first inspired him to play back in 2001.        Today Matthew is known online and on-stage as THE BOOGIE WOOGIE KID with a performance history that spans everything from symphony appearances to Jazz and Blues festivals.
The Acoustic Café series runs every Friday night from January 3rd – March 6th. Doors will open at 7:00 pm and the show will begin at 7:30 pm. Open to the public, the cost is $12.00 at the door, $10.00 for Livingston Arts Council members.

Carol Sue Whitt
On January 11, 2020, after 85 full years, Carol Sue Whitt left her earthly home for her heavenly home to be one of the Lord’s Angels.  She was surrounded by her family and lots of love in her final days.
A matriarch, whose life purpose was being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, has left a big mark in this world and will live on in the hearts she left behind. She worked hard throughout her life, too, which included caring for the elderly, helping at church activities, and making sure her family and friends never went without.  Carol was always there when you needed her, and she did whatever it took to keep all of us in line.
Carol is survived by her husband, Thomas Whitt Sr. and  5 children, Thomas Whitt Jr., Virginia Whitt, Donald Whitt, David Whitt (Elizabeth), and Daniel Whitt (Nichole).  She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Marilyn Kavalauskas and Barbara Pittman. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 4 brothers-in-law, and 3 sisters-in-law.
The First United Methodist Church of Fowlerville was Carol's anchor.  They were her second family.  Her memorial is being held there on February 1, 2020 at 11:00 am, with a luncheon to follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in her memory to the First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Second St., Fowlerville, MI  48836. Arrangements entrusted to Herrmann Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be expressed at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com

Ten-year-old raising money to purchase LUCAS CPR device for fire department
Ten-year-old Lucas Vetter is once again raising funds to purchase a LUCAS machine, only this time it’s for the Fowlerville Fire Department. LUCAS is a hands-free CPR device that is put on a person suffering from a heart attack prior to their being transported to the emergency room. It is hooked up to a machine that does CPR during the drive. The hands free feature allows first responders to buckle up for safety on the way to the hospital rather than having to operate the device.
The machine costs around $16,000 and due to that high cost not every department has one, or more than one.
In October of 2018, over a year ago, the Rose Township youth launched a fundraising effort to buy a second device for the Howell Area Fire Department after seeing one during a visit to the fire hall. His father was doing renovations at the building and had brought Lucas with him during a ‘Take Your Child to Work’ Day. While there, the boy saw the machine in the fire truck and asked questions about it. The firefighters showed him how it worked, which impressed him and prompted him to put together a plan to provide additional devices to Howell and other area departments.
Thus far he’s raised money to purchase four of the devices—three of them for the Howell Department and one for the Hamburg Township Fire Department.
With Fowlerville now next on his list, he and his family and friends are hosting a “Lucas for LUCAS” Fundraising Lunch at the Fowlerville Farms this Saturday, Jan. 25. A buffet consisting of pizza, breadsticks, and salad will be offered from noon to 2 p.m.
The cost is $7.99 for adults and $4.99 for kids, with 50 percent of each lunch that’s purchased being donated to the  LUCAS fund.
In addition, a raffle will be held, with prizes given away to the winners and the proceeds also going to the fund.
Lucas is the son of Matt and Kerry Vetter and is a fourth grader at Holly Academy.
Fire Chief John Wright said that obtaining the device would help the department, so the fundraising effort is appreciated.
“We actually have a need for two of them,” he noted, “but right now we’re focusing on getting the first one.”

Acoustic Café to feature John D. Lamb this Friday, Jan. 17, at Opera House
Acoustic Café is an annual music series held at the historic Howell Opera House that features outstanding Michigan performers and is now celebrating its 12th year.
This year’s series continues on Friday, Jan. 17, with singer/songwriter and Royal Oak native John D. Lamb. John self-describes his genre as folk/Americana or better yet, Great Lakes rock ‘n’ roll.
For 24 years he has directed Lamb’s Retreat for Songwriters at Harbor Springs’ Birchwood Inn. There, he fosters creativity of retreat attendees in a relaxed environment. His own music is complex, full of meaning and intended for more than one listen. He explains that repeated listenings to a song help listeners delve in and build their own picture of what he is describing. Lamb knows that he has only “three minutes to grab somebody’s attention,” so he writes in a way that demands repeated listenings.
Lamb has transformed the art of songwriting into not only a career as a musician but also as a mentor – at his annual Retreat for Songwriters, Lamb brings artists to Harbor Springs every November, hosting nearly 100 people over the course of two weeks.
The Acoustic Café series runs every Friday night from now thru March 6. Doors will open at 7:00 pm and the show will begin at 7:30 pm. Open to the public, the cost is $12.00 at the door, $10.00 for Livingston Arts Council members.

Those desiring may make contributions in Janette's memory to Child Evangelism Fellowship or the charity of your choice.
Janette lived in Flint until she was nine, then moved near Stanton, Michigan. After many twists and turns she finished high school in Stanton in 1950. She married Robert K. Cooper of Hubbardston, Michigan on September 2, 1950. They lived in Arizona for two years and returned to Michigan where they resided many years. She bore a son Stephen RW Cooper in 1954, and adopted a child Ellen Cooper in the mid-60's.
She obtained her real estate license in 1961, and was a realtor until 1971 when Cooper Realty was dissolved. During this ten-year period, she took many courses in Christian education, specializing in children's work throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin by ministering in Vacation Bible Schools, children's camps as well as outreach at The Cedar Way Free Methodist Church where she was a member for many years.

After marriage, she adopted his children: David, Steven, Douglass (deceased), and Jane Warrington and Bill adopted Stephen C.
Along with her husband, she took care of David Warrington in their home for 27 years following a horrible automobile accident that left him brain injured. This experience triggered her to write three books on brain injury and healthcare: The Humpty Dumpty Syndrome, Caregivers Triumph and Between Clean Sheets through the current publisher Charisma Media. She also served as the vice president of the Michigan Brain Injury Association and was Michigan's representative to the first National Brain Injury Association board meeting.
During this period, she and Bill did much traveling throughout the United States and Europe along with David and Jane. They wintered in Florida where she wrote and directed variety shows in their retirement park. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from The United Bible College, and Master's and Doctorate degrees in Theology and Christian counseling when she was 69.
After moving back to Michigan to be near family, she lost her husband Willard G. Warrington in April 2013 in East Lansing, Michigan. She is preceded in death by two sisters: Marilyn Koerber and Audrey Rogers.
