Open House planned on Friday, June 6, to celebrate newly-renovated Fowlerville District Library

The community is invited to celebrate the newly-renovated Fowlerville District Library at a special Open House from 12 to 6 pm on Friday, June 6. The library will open at noon, and this event will begin with a ribbon cutting followed by an afternoon of fun, food, and exploration.

A $1.6 million building project was completed earlier this year which included renovations to both the interior and exterior of the building as well as improvements to the parking lot and adjecent grounds. A major part of the project was taking around 5,000-square feet of unused space and converting it into a children’s area. The building, itself, is a little over 16,000 square feet, so this was a major enhancement and allowed library officials to reconfigure the rest of the interior for other uses.

“We are so excited for the renovation to finally be done,” said Isabella Rowan, library director. “This is your library and we invite you to come and get acquainted or re-acquainted with this fun and fabulous resource that is open to everyone.”

After the ribbon is cut, the community can enjoy a slice of pizza from Duke’s and play corn hole or giant Jenga from the Library of Things collection in the parking lot. Stepping inside the bright, new space, visitors can explore all the wonderful things the library has to offer. Visit the new study rooms, hang out in the teen zone, meet the muralist, explore the new children’s area, see the library history exhibit, buy a book from the book sale nook, and much more. Adults can complete the Scavenger Hunt that leads them through the library and turn in the completed sheet for an opportunity to spin the wheel for some library swag.

Key resources on display will include BrainFuse, a free online resource that will help to keep kids off the slippery slope of the “summer slide.” Plus, visitors can explore all that Craft and Hobby has to offer. This free resource provides 100’s of hours of video tutorials and demonstrations for crafts and hobbies of all sorts – from needlecraft and specialty cakes to woodworking and photography to yoga and dance.

“There are so many undiscovered, life-enhancing things at our library,” Rowan said, “These are available for free with your library card. Come on in and make your great discovery.”

Other activities at the Open House include hands-on exploration of items in the Library of Things collection, including the Buddha Board, ukuleles, and other cool items.

Specialty desserts from Torch 180 will be served at 3 pm.

Finally, for the enjoyment of visitors, the musical group Bookmarc and the Librarians will “rock the books off the shelves” from 3 to 5 pm with selections from the Beatles and Byrds and. Members of this special band are Chuck Deuel of Fowlerville, Derek Turcsanyi, Marcus Allen, and ????

Fowlerville District Library is located at 130 South Grand Avenue in Fowlerville. For more information about this event or other library services, please call 517-223-9089 or visit www.fowlervillelibrary.org
