 Norma J. Hall

May 27, 1931-April 4, 2025

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Born May 27, 1931 in Fowlervlle MI to the late Roy and Bessie (Rickett) Horton and passed away on April 4, 2025 at the age of 93.

Norma Jean (Horton) (Bohnett) Hall peacefully passed from this Earth into Heaven with her family by her side on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the age of 93. Norma was a former cheerleader and graduate of Fowlerville High School, Class of 1950, and a life-long member of the Conway United Brethren Church (later known as the Fowlerville United Brethren Church). Norma worked at various part-time jobs throughout her life, including the Variety Store in Fowlerville, where she was loved by both patrons and co-workers alike.

Norma spent most of her 93 years as a homemaker and beloved mother of four children, including sons Gregory (Veronica) Bohnett of Nicholasville, KY, David (Leslie) Bohnett of Howell, MI, and daughters Susan Bohnett-Holmes of Lansing, MI and Julie (John) Rocholl of Cumming, GA. Norma grew up and lived in Fowlerville from the time of her birth in 1931 until 2009, when she moved in with, and in her later years was lovingly cared for by, her son David and daughter-in-law Leslie (McArthur) Bohnett, until her death on April 4, 2025, at their home in Howell.

In addition to her children, “Grandma” (“Grandma Buffy”) (“Gam-Gam”) will be lovingly remembered as “the sweetest ol’ gal on the block” by her 10 grandchildren, including: Andrea (Michael), Benjamin, Bradley (Melissa), Christopher (Alicia), Daniel (Ashlee), Dennis (Kelley), Douglas (Sara), Tessa (Ben), Alexander (Alyson), and Brooke (Christopher); additionally, “Great-Grandma” (aka “Gigi”) will be dearly missed by her 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the light of her life, including: Cayden (16), Logan (12), Mollee (11), Hayden (10), Jace (8), Emersyn (8), Jackson (8), Harper (8), Evelyn (8), Liliana (6), Mason (6), James (6), Jack (5), Liam (5), Bryce (4), Blake (3), Lucy (15 mos.), Avery (8 mos.), and Cole (7 mos.).

Norma is survived by her much-beloved sister, Helen (Mailand) Athy of Lansing; step-children Craig, Pat, Chris, Cathy, and Pam (Schoettle) Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Gerald Bohnett, Robert Hall and Peggy Hall; brothers Harold (Evelyn) (Mary) Horton, George (Margaret) Horton, and Howard (Virginia) Horton; sister Alice (Clifton) Hickey; nephews and nieces Gerald Horton (1947-1949), James Horton, Doug Athy and Marilyn Horton; as well as her beloved parents, Roy D. and Bessie M. (Rickett) Horton.

Norma’s faith and her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was an important part of her life and evident to everyone who knew her. She humbly served God with gentleness, kindness, love and grace all the days of her life, while at the same time teaching by example her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to do the same. A more beautiful and loving example of a “Godly Christian Woman” would be difficult to find, and her children feel blessed they had the privilege of calling her “Mom.”

Family and Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, June 7, 2025, anytime between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Herrmann Funeral Home, located at 1005 E. Grand River Avenue, Fowlerville, Michigan.

Open House planned on Friday, June 6, to celebrate newly-renovated Fowlerville District Library

The community is invited to celebrate the newly-renovated Fowlerville District Library at a special Open House from 12 to 6 pm on Friday, June 6. The library will open at noon, and this event will begin with a ribbon cutting followed by an afternoon of fun, food, and exploration.

A $1.6 million building project was completed earlier this year which included renovations to both the interior and exterior of the building as well as improvements to the parking lot and adjecent grounds. A major part of the project was taking around 5,000-square feet of unused space and converting it into a children’s area. The building, itself, is a little over 16,000 square feet, so this was a major enhancement and allowed library officials to reconfigure the rest of the interior for other uses.

“We are so excited for the renovation to finally be done,” said Isabella Rowan, library director. “This is your library and we invite you to come and get acquainted or re-acquainted with this fun and fabulous resource that is open to everyone.”

After the ribbon is cut, the community can enjoy a slice of pizza from Duke’s and play corn hole or giant Jenga from the Library of Things collection in the parking lot. Stepping inside the bright, new space, visitors can explore all the wonderful things the library has to offer. Visit the new study rooms, hang out in the teen zone, meet the muralist, explore the new children’s area, see the library history exhibit, buy a book from the book sale nook, and much more. Adults can complete the Scavenger Hunt that leads them through the library and turn in the completed sheet for an opportunity to spin the wheel for some library swag.

Key resources on display will include BrainFuse, a free online resource that will help to keep kids off the slippery slope of the “summer slide.” Plus, visitors can explore all that Craft and Hobby has to offer. This free resource provides 100’s of hours of video tutorials and demonstrations for crafts and hobbies of all sorts – from needlecraft and specialty cakes to woodworking and photography to yoga and dance.

“There are so many undiscovered, life-enhancing things at our library,” Rowan said, “These are available for free with your library card. Come on in and make your great discovery.”

Other activities at the Open House include hands-on exploration of items in the Library of Things collection, including the Buddha Board, ukuleles, and other cool items.

Specialty desserts from Torch 180 will be served at 3 pm.

Finally, for the enjoyment of visitors, the musical group Bookmarc and the Librarians will “rock the books off the shelves” from 3 to 5 pm with selections from the Beatles and Byrds and. Members of this special band are Chuck Deuel of Fowlerville, Derek Turcsanyi, Marcus Allen, and ????

Fowlerville District Library is located at 130 South Grand Avenue in Fowlerville. For more information about this event or other library services, please call 517-223-9089 or visit www.fowlervillelibrary.org

 Donna “Dilly” Jean Dillingham-Smyth

February 4, 1933 – May 13, 2025

Donna “Dilly” Jean Dillingham-Smyth, 92, of Fowlerville, Michigan, peacefully passed away on May 13, 2025. Born and raised in Fowlerville, Donna lived a life marked by unwavering faith, deep compassion, and a servant’s heart.

She was first married to Richard Dillingham, who preceded her in death. Later, she found love again with Donald Smyth, who passed away in January of 2024. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her beloved sisters Ruth, Gertrude, Doris, and Virginia; her stepdaughter Lori Smyth; sister-in-law Anna Dillingham; brother-in-law Robert Dillingham; her lifelong best friend of over 90 years, Betty Kane—who shared many laughs and endless cribbage games with her—and lifelong friend Charlotte Ott.

She is survived by her devoted son Chuck Dillingham and his wife Jeanne, whom Donna absolutely adored. Jeanne wasn’t just a daughter-in-law—she was Donna’s best bud and one of her greatest joys in life. The two shared countless adventures, shopping trips, heartfelt conversations, and laughter-filled games of “aggravation.” Their bond was deep, genuine, and full of love.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Brittany Hess (Dean Hess), Bert Kangas, Mitchell Ramsey, Jesse Ramsey, Stanton Trumble, and Dalana Trumble; and great-grandchildren Henry Hess, Declan Hess, Veda Hess, Renee Ramsey, Miranda Ramsey, Alana Ramsey, Evan Ramsey, and Dalton Trumble. Donna also leaves behind her beloved grand-dog, Mr. Weiner, who was a cherished companion.

Donna is survived by her stepchildren Norma Jean, Doug Acker, and Jim Smyth; many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a host of loving nieces and nephews who will carry her memory with them always.

Affectionately known as “Dilly,” Donna was the kind of woman who always put others before herself. Her famous peanut butter cake became a symbol of comfort and celebration for anyone lucky enough to receive one. In her later years, she found peace and joy in bird watching—especially when a cardinal, her favorite bird, appeared at her window.

Donna was a devoted Catholic and a woman of strong and steady faith. She lived her life as a reflection of Christ’s love, touching countless lives through her kindness, humor, quiet strength, and unwavering generosity.

Her legacy of love, friendship, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Fowlerville. Dilly's family will receive friends on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 4-7pm at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, MacDonald Chapel and again Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church one hour prior to Mass.

 Richard G. Hutchins

Richard G. Hutchins went to be with Jesus on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the age of 95. A man of deep faith, steady service, and boundless generosity, Richard lived a life marked by love—for his country, his family, his community, and his Savior.

Born on April 29, 1930, in Gaylord, Michigan, to Archie and Viola Hutchins, Richard’s commitment to service began early. After graduating from high school, he joined the Army National Guard in Detroit and later served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. Following his time in the Marines, he returned to the National Guard, where he continued serving with honor until his retirement in 1989 as a Master Sergeant. He was a proud member of The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, honoring the legacy of those who served before him.

In the early 1980s, Richard began working at McPherson Hospital, now Trinity Health in Howell, Michigan, where he continued to serve others well into his 80s. His work ethic and kind spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Outside of his professional life, Richard was a skilled woodworker with a generous heart. Each year, he handcrafted hundreds of wooden toys, which he donated to the Family Impact Center of Fowlerville and the Salvation Army to bring joy to children in need.

In 1987, Richard met and married the love of his life, his sweetheart Mary. Together, they shared 37 joyful years filled with travel, antiquing, visiting battlefields, camping, singing, and home projects. Their shared passion for history led them to co-author six books, including four focused on Civil War veterans in Livingston County.

A devoted member of Fowlerville United Brethren Church, Richard cherished welcoming everyone at the door, teaching Sunday School, and ringing the church bell. His faith in Jesus was not just part of his life—it was the foundation of everything he did.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife Mary; his brother Charles of Monterey, California; his son Ron (Sherry) Hutchins of Sault Ste. Marie; stepdaughter Sandee (Rob) Engardio of Charlotte; five grandchildren: Holly (Drew) Filkins, Mark (Alexis) Hutchins, Sarah (Lance) Haavisto, Sabree Wilson, and Natalee (Theo) Miller; and seven great-grandchildren: Jack, Ida, Eliza, Georgie, Clayton, Keeven, and Lyle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Viola; his brother George; and his son Steve.

Visitation was being held at Herrmann Funeral Home on Thursday, May 15, from 4 PM to 7 PM. A celebration of Richard’s life took place on Friday, May 16, at 11 AM at Fowlerville United Brethren Church.

Richard’s legacy of faith, service, and kindness will live on in the many lives he touched

Memorial contributions are suggested to City Rescue Mission of Lansing or Fowlerville UB Church.

Arrangements entrusted to Herrmann Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com

 Kenneth Leroy Coll

Kenneth Leroy Coll was born April 22, 1938, the son of Charles H. and Agnes (Devine) Coll. Ken went to school in Howell. He married Alice Gallup (40 years); she preceded him in death.

Ken worked at Master Cast as a foreman and die setter. He also worked at Oldsmobile in Lansing and then retired from Howell Public Schools as a custodian. He is survived by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Per Ken's wishes, cremation has taken place, and no further services will be held.

Livingston County United Way 23rd Annual ‘Day of Caring’ on August 6th

Livingston County United Way announced that the 23rd Annual ‘Day of Caring’ will be held on Wednesday, August 6th. Volunteer and work site registrations are now open and ready for people to sign up. ‘Day of Caring’ is the largest single-day community service event in Livingston County. One day. One Community. Amazing Results.

In 2024, we were able to bring together 762 volunteers who accomplished a total of 55 projects. These included assisting senior citizens with home related repairs and improvements, helping support project referrals from our local agencies and schools, collecting school supplies and packing school backpacks, as well as organizing local personal care drives that resulted in over 40 boxes of donations.

Volunteers are invited to register individually or as a group. They can designate preferences for location, type of project, special skills and specific shift times (9:00 a.m. – noon or 1:00-4:00 p.m. or a full day commitment). Deadline for volunteer registration is June 30.

Companies, clubs and organizations are invited and encouraged to participate together. What better way to showcase an organization’s volunteer spirit while making a difference, improving employee morale and enthusiasm through team building and connecting individuals to their community and coworkers.

If you are unable to participate in this wonderful community service event but still want to help, consider a company sponsorship, a personal donation or consider holding a food drive or personal care drive in the weeks before the event. There are so many ways to make an impact in our community.
