Sheila Rae Miller (Thompson)

    Sheila Rae Miller (Thompson) passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on May 23, 2025. A longtime resident of Fowlerville, Michigan, Sheila spent most of her life in the community she loved before retiring to Florida, where she enjoyed her later years in the sunshine and warmth.

    Sheila was married to Lee Miller, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her beloved son, Michael Thompson, and his wife, Heather. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Brandon, Jesse, and Hilary, who brought her endless joy and laughter.

    Born the second-youngest of eight sisters, Sheila shared a lifelong bond with her siblings. She was preceded in death by her sisters Betty and Jeri, and her memory lives on through her remaining family. Sheila had a deep love for old car shows and could often be found admiring classic cars and sharing stories of her favorites. She was also a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley — his music brought her comfort, joy, and countless memories throughout the years.

    Sheila will be remembered for her strength, warmth, and unwavering love for her family. Her quiet resilience and kind spirit touched the lives of many, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter. 

 WJAA to host Community Garage Sale to support local youth sports program

    The Webberville Junior Athletic Association (WJAA), a cornerstone of local youth recreational sports, is rallying community support this summer with a special fundraising event. As an independent nonprofit organization, WJAA provides essential athletic opportunities for young athletes before they become eligible for Webberville Athletics, operating without school district funding.

    To help continue its mission, WJAA is hosting a Community Garage Sale on June 27–29, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day at 11495 Bell Oak Rd.

    The event promises a fun-filled weekend of treasure hunting, tasty treats, and strong community spirit—all in support of local youth athletics. WJAA is currently accepting donations of gently used household items, toys, returnable cans and bottles, and homemade baked goods (to be dropped off closer to the sale dates).

    “Whether it’s a toy your kids have outgrown, a lamp looking for a new home, or your famous cookies—every contribution makes a difference,” said representatives from WJAA. “Your support helps provide equipment, uniforms, and opportunities for local kids to play, grow, and build lifelong memories through sports.”

    Donations can be dropped off now through the sale dates (excluding baked goods, which should be delivered just before the event). All proceeds will directly support WJAA programs and help rebuild the heart of youth sports in Webberville.

    Community members are encouraged to stop by, donate, and show their support for the next generation of Spartan athletes.

 Williamston ‘Concert at the Shell’ features classic rock tribute band

    The next Williamston ‘Concert at the Shell’ will feature the spectacular show Itchycoo Park on Thursday, June 19, starting 7 p.m. at McCormick Park. The concert will be part of Red Cedear Jubilee.

    Named one of the Best Classic Rock Tribute Bands "anywhere", this group brings music, showmanship and stage to the rock classics of Jefferson Airplane, The Who. Ike & Tina Turner etc etc. Itchycoo Park transports the audience on a magical mystery tour with outstanding musicianship, spectacular vocals and harmonies.

    This show is sponsored by Tavern 109, Williamston Area Senior Center and Williamston Rotary. Other concert patrons include Xfinity Comcast, Custom Built Design and Remodelling and Granger Waste Services.

 Donations being sought for Silent Auction at Webberville Library

    Plan now for donating to the Friends of the Webberville Library Silent Auction fundraiser coming November 4 through November 25. We are asking for original artwork, homemade craft items, themed gift baskets, knitted items, new collectibles, gift cards, event tickets and services from local businesses. We will accept donations October 20 through November 3.

 Red Cedar Jubilee in full swing this coming week

    The annual Red Cedar Jubilee in Williamston will be in full swing this coming week.

    The Demolition Derby started off the schedule this Saturday, June 14th with a ‘Night of Destruction’ at the Howard Dahlstrom Park. The action was schedule to underway at 6 p.m, with admission $5 for ages 5-11 and $10 for ages 12 and up.

    The ‘Citizen of the Year’ Dinner is planned on Monday, June 16, at the Brookshire Inn & Golf Course. The reservation-only event starts at 6:30 p.m.

    The ‘Senior Citizens’ Picnic will be held on Tuesday, June 17, from ll:30 am. to 1:30 p.m. at McCormick Park.

    The number of activities grows larger starting Wednesday, July 18, with the opening of the Food & Beverage Tent and the start of the Arnold Amusement Carnival, with both being at Howard Dahlstrom Park. The Tent will feature live entertainment all four days its open—Wednesday thru Saturday, while the carnival will have rides and games through Sunday.

    Other ongoing activities at Dahlstrom Park include a Dunk Tank and Pony Rides.

    Wednesday’s schedule also features Scout Games at McCormick Park at 4 p.m., followed by a Kids Parade from McCormick Park to the Jubilee Tent starting at 6 p.m. and a Euchre Tournament at the Tent starting at 7p.m..

    Thursday’s itinerary includes a Cornhole Tournament at Dahlstrom Park that gets underway at 5 p.m., the Williamston Weekly Cruise-In along Grand River in Downtown Williamston from 5 to 9 p.m., and the Music at the Shell concert at McCormick Park at 7 p.m.

    Friday’s main highlight is a Senior Fundraising Sale at the Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    Saturday is a busy day with a Craft Show at McCormick Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., a Car Show and Antique Car Rides at the Eagles Club (835 High Street) starting at 10 a.m., a Chicken Bar-B-Que at the Eagles Club that begins at 12 noon, the Grand Parade at 11:30 a.m. that goes along Grand River through the Downtown, the Rotary Duck Drop being held at the Putnam Street Bridge at 2 p.m., and the Fireworks at Dahlstrom Park which begins at dusk (around 10 p.m.).

    Sunday features the Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast at the Jubilee Tent from 8 to 11 a.m. the weekly Farm & Artisan Market at the McCormick Park Parking Lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the final day of Arnold Amusement Carnvial from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

 Red Cedar Jubilee Euchre Tournament to benefit park improvements

    The Friends of Williamston Parks (FOWP) will host a euchre tournament on Wednesday, June 18 in the Red Cedar Jubilee Food & Beverage Tent. Buy-in begins at 6:30 p.m. and play starts at 7 p.m. The cost is $10 per person.

    The top prize is a Weber Spirit II gas grill courtesy of Kodet’s Hardware. The event will feature 50-50 drawing and other prizes from local businesses.

    All proceeds from the euchre tournament will benefit park improvements in the Williamston area. Food and beverages will be available for purchase during the euchre tournament.

    The Livingston Centre Historical Society is pleased to announce the completion of the Kirkland House roof repairs and replacement. C.L.E. Construction and Metal Roofs of Michigan did a great job on this historic structure, so it can be a vibrant attraction at the Historic Village for years to come.

    The entire Village is looking great this summer, thanks to volunteers Rick's Outdoor Services and Chase Langdon of Roots and Branch Landscaping, two of our local sponsors, who are so generous with their time and talents.

    Peachy Kay's Cleaning Services is working hard keeping the buildings tidy, in preparation for the many guests who visit the Historic Village during Fowlerville Family Fair week.

    Committee members are very grateful for all the local sponsors who joined together and made this happen. The generous donations to cover the financial obligations, as well as the Fall Fest attendees, are the reason the building will be with us for many more years. Interior restoration will continue in the coming months; please contact LCHV2023@gmail.com to volunteer services in plastering, painting, and similar tasks.

    The Livingston Centre Historical Society is seeking volunteers to serve as tour guides during fair week. This is a great opportunity for anyone needing leadership or volunteer hours for FFA, scouts, 4-H, or school projects. Committee members can then serve as docents, greeting tours inside the historic buildings.

Webberville United Methodist Church to serve Chicken Dinner on June 21st

    Webberville United Methodist Church, located at 4215 E. Holt Rd., is serving a ‘drive through’ Chicken Dinner on Saturday, June 21. The dinner includes two pieces oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes, chicken gravy, green beans, corn casserole, coleslaw, roll and cookies. All for $10. Dinner served 5 to 7 pmor until we run out. 

 ‘Concerts at the Shell’ in Williamston features classic rock band on June 12th

    The ‘Concerts at the Shell’ resumes at the McCormick Park in Williamston this Thursday, June 12, at 7 p.m. with the band ‘The Pocket’. They describe themselves as a "classic rock cover band from the Lansing area. Formed in '23 with local musicians, they cover songs spanning the 1960's through the 2000's. A six piece band, with male & female singers which provides a dynamic versatility you'll LOVE."

    The Williamston Summer Concert Series is presented by the Williamston Area Beautification Fund. This concert is sponsored by the Capital Area District Libraries and Niko'sTaverna.

    Niko's is one the four downtown restaurants, where one can get both food AND an alcoholic beverage 'to-go' to the concert!. Concerts are in the Williamston (legal) Social District.

 LACASA announces annual Garden Tour planned for July 12

    LACASA Center has announced its 26th annual Garden Tour planned for July 12th. This event, now in its 26th year, allows the community to explore a curated selection of the area’s most enchanting private gardens while supporting vital services for survivors of child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual violence.

    Attendees will embark on a self-guided journey through diverse landscapes, each reflecting the passion and creativity of local homeowners. From vibrant floral displays to serene outdoor living spaces and innovative design elements, the tour promises inspiration for every garden enthusiast.

    "The LACASA Garden Tour is truly a highlight of the summer, offering a peaceful escape while directly supporting our critical work," said LACASA President and CEO Bobette Schrandt. "The funds raised through this event are essential in allowing us to continue providing safe shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy free of charge to those we serve. It's a testament to how our community can come together to cultivate both natural beauty and profound hope."

    In addition to touring the gardens, attendees can try their luck at the Stargazer Scavenger Hunt for a chance to win a prize, and bid on fabulous packages at the Blooming Raffle, located at Terraces Flower Farm (stop #4). There, they will also find Petals Café, our complimentary refreshment station. This year’s raffle includes several unique pieces, including painted windows by local artist Kat McButterfly, a handcrafted potting bench, a decorative birdhouse, a private wildflower workshop, and a deluxe charcuterie basket.

    Tickets for the 2025 LACASA Garden Tour are $25 and will be sold online for a seamless experience. Guests are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance via LACASA's website. Limited accommodations for cash sales will be made on tour day, but online purchase is strongly encouraged to ensure entry and reduce wait times.

    The 9th Annual ‘Fun in the ‘Ville’ is taking place on Saturday, June 14th, from 10am to 3pm at the Fowlerville Centennial Park.

    The event once again features Free Kids Crafts & Activities (including inflatibles), a trackless train, a petting zoo, music by Ken Bielous of Big Daddy’s DJ Service, a variety of vendors including those offering arts & crafts, and several food trucks.

    The Reading Trail, the Fowlerville Book Bus, face painting, and balloon animals by Pebbles the Clown are also part of the event. New this year will be a rock climbing wall.

    There’ll also be a bike raffle.
