 Daniel G. Roberts

Daniel G. Roberts, age 82, was welcomed home into the arms of Jesus on February 1st in Brighton, Michigan surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Daniel, or Dan as he was better known, was born in Williamston, Michigan and grew up in Fowlerville, Michigan as one of four children born to Clemence and Vivian Roberts. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged. After his service to his country, he was employed as a Plumber with Metz & Weiand and then moved to General Motors (where he was known as Rabbit) for the better part of 30years until his retirement. He owned and operated his own local Plumbing Business, D & S Roberts and Son and served the community with an honest heart and an unmatched work ethic.

On March 19, 1965, he married the love of his life Sharon M. U’Ren in Webberville, Michigan. They would have celebrated 60 years together this March. They made their lives in Fowlerville raising their five children: Michelle, Danielle, Angelia, Daniel, and Rebekah. He had a deep love for God, enjoyed camping in his motor home, the Detroit Tigers and spending time with his family.

Dan is survived by his loving wife Sharon, children Michelle (Kraig) Sacker, Danielle (Daniel) Hoonhorst, Angelia (Steven) Ward, Daniel C.K. Roberts Jr. (Kim), and Rebekah (Scott) Butts. Lovingly known as PaPa, he will be deeply missed by his treasured grandchildren Alyssa, Bronsyn, Jacob, Jessica, Pheobe, Gavin, Madison, Matthew, Keegan, Sydni, Kadin, and Kaleb. He is also survived by his brother Wayne Roberts and sister Scarlet Roberts. He was preceded in death by his father Clemence, his mother Vivian, and his brother James Roberts.

To honor his life of love and giving, in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his memory to K9s for Warriors at this link k9sforwarriors.org.

We will miss his always joyful heart and his amazing talent to whistle through life.

May you continue to inspire us:

To enter each day with a generous heart.

To serve the call of courage and love

Until we see your beautiful face again

In that land where there is no more separation,

Where all tears will be wiped from our mind,

And where we will never lose you again.

LACASA launches ‘Start by Believing’ campaign in Livingston County

LACASA, a leading provider of services to survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual violence, has officially launched the Livingston County ‘Start by Believing’ campaign with an event featuring an educational video, testimonials, and the signing of pledges by law enforcement and community leaders. This global public awareness campaign aims to end the silence surrounding sexual assault and change the way communities respond to survivors.

Supported by a grant from the CSX Foundation, LACASA teamed up with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office for the campaign which underscores the importance of believing survivors, offering support, and connecting them with resources. The goal is to work together to create a culture where survivors feel safe coming forward and seeking help, knowing they will be met with compassion and understanding at every step, and not judgment or disbelief.

“For too long, survivors of sexual violence have faced barriers to justice and healing,” LACASA President and CEO Bobette Schrandt told the group of law enforcement officers, community advocates, and local leaders who attended the event.

“They have felt unheard, unsupported, and alone. But today, we are sending a powerful message as we tell them, 'We believe you,” she added. After watching a video further explaining the importance of believing survivors, attendees signed a pledge promising that if someone discloses they were a victim of sexual assault, they will ‘Start by Believing’. The first to sign were Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy and Livingston County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Cristina Richards, who were also featured in the video. Schrandt was quick to praise their partnership and leadership of the initiative.

“They truly understand the critical difference believing survivors makes in terms of keeping our community safe, increasing prosecution and conviction rates, and keeping perpetrators off the streets,” she said.

Over the next several months the campaign will include:

Public awareness messages: educating the community about the importance of believing survivors and how to support them.

Training for professionals: equipping law enforcement, healthcare providers, and other professionals with the tools and knowledge to respond effectively to sexual assault disclosures.

Community events: engaging the public in conversations about sexual assault and promoting a culture of support.

LACASA invites all members of the Livingston County community to join in the ‘Start By Believing’ movement. Those wishing to bring a ‘Start by Believing’ presentation to their organization or workplace should contact LACASA Sexual Assault Response Team Manager Sherry Boroto at SBoroto@lacasacenter.org

Any Livingston County community can become a bird city by following guidelines of Bird City Network to increase habitat, reduce threats to birds, engage people and promote sustainability. What a gift for our home community to make it healthier for birds and us.

 Ann Marie Garvie

Anne Marie Garvie of Fowlerville passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, January 29, 2025 at Hospice of Lansing Stoneleigh Residence after many months of declining health. Anne, a former resident of Detroit and Indianapolis, was 93. At the time of her death she was in the company of several family members.

The oldest of three children, Anne was born in Detroit on August 12, 1931 to Mildred (LaPointe) and John J. Long. In 1950 Anne married James Barr Garvie, beginning 62 years of loving each other through joys and sorrows with a commitment to help each other into heaven. Anne poured the Love of God, appreciation of beauty, and a world of humor into everything she did.

She was an avid reader and seamstress; she could sew anything from professional curtains to prom and bridesmaid’s dresses. At the age of 50 she returned to school to become a nurse. Wanting so badly to succeed, she found herself overwhelmed with nursing homework, only to subsequently discover that she had completed a whole week’s worth of homework in one night! She inspired us all that it is never too late to chase your dreams.

Anne was a lifelong Roman Catholic and she let her Christ-light shine for family and friends. She was originally a member of Epiphany Catholic Church in Detroit but most recently attended St. Agnes Catholic Church in Fowlerville. When raising her young family in Detroit, she encouraged family rosary nights and on Saturday mornings would call everyone in from playing outside to wash up to go to Confession.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Mary Beth (1953), her sister Peggy (1951), her parents, her husband Jim (2012), and brother John (2013). She is survived by her six children: Peggy (George) Barrette of Leamington, Ontario; Anne Marie (George) L’Heureux of Lititz, Pennsylvania; Mary Kay Porretta of Fowlerville; Beth Ann (Mark) James of Plymouth; Julie (Bill) Murhling of Fortville, Indiana; and James Jr. (Sue Anne) of Lansing. Anne especially loved each one of her 29 grandchildren and all 43 great-grandchildren to the moon and back!

We are so very grateful for the loving care given to Anne by her daughter Mary Kay over the past many years and to Stoneleigh Hospice for their compassion and skill during her final days.

 Robert Thomas Kuch

Robert Thomas Kuch, age 75, passed away on January 15, 2025 in Lansing, Michigan, surrounded by his wife and children.

Bob was born on March 24, 1949 in Lansing, Michigan to Mike and Esther (Berger) Kuch. He grew up in Fowlerville, Michigan, as one of 12 children, and graduated from Fowlerville High School in 1968. Immediately following high school, he served in the United States Navy (Weather Reconnaissance Squadron 4) from 1969 to 1973 in Pensacola and Jacksonville, Florida at the Naval Air Station and honorably discharged as Petty Officer Third Class. He attended and earned an associate degree from Lansing Community College, and after service to his country, he went back to work at Motor Wheel, then moved to General Motors for the next 30 years until retirement.

On February 14, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Kay Jean Herbert, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Fowlerville, Michigan. They would have celebrated 56 years of marriage this February. Following his Naval service, they left Florida and made Webberville, Michigan their home, raising two children, Anthony, and Angela. He loved golfing, traveling, fishing, hunting, and reaping the rewards of vegetable gardening and canning.

Bob was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Fowlerville for decades. He was head of the Christian service food pantry, usher, eucharistic minister, and Knights of Columbus, serving two terms as Grand Knight. For 20 years, he sat on the Village of Webberville Council and was elected mayor in 1994. His greatest achievement was bringing development to what is the industrial park off M-52.

Bob is survived by his wife, Kay; son, Anthony (Meghan Swain) Kuch and daughter, Angela (Elmer) Chirino; grandsons, Killian Kuch and Fransico Chirino; and granddaughter, Yasmin Cordova Chirino. He is also survived his siblings: Carl (Carol) Kuch, Jerry (Sharon) Kuch, Ronald (Carol) Kuch, Mary Eades, William (Jacque) Kuch, Daniel (Cathy) Kuch, Diane (Rod) Monroe, Esther (Ken) Marr, Eileen (Rick) Corbett; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Esther Kuch; brother, David Kuch; and sister, Carolyn (Kuch) Darnell. Visitation for Bob was held on Monday, January 20th, at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, MacDonald Chapel in Howell, Michigan from 5-8pm, with a rosary being prayed at 7:00pm. After the rosary, the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus did a presentation for the family. A funeral mass was celebrated at 11am Tuesday, January 21st at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Fowlerville, with Father Nate officiating. Visitation took place an hour prior. Following mass, he received a full military honors presentation. A reception was held immediately following military honors at the St. Agnes Catholic Church Lothamer Parish Center, hosted by parish members. Internment was planned at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Fowlerville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Family Impact Center, PO Box 993 Fowlerville Michigan, 48836 in Bob’s memory.

While our hearts were not ready, God set his seat at His table for Bob, and he will be greatly missed by many. Bob loved a good party, time with family and friends, service to the community, and would have you raise a glass of Jameson in his honor.

Rep. Woolford appointed chair of House Oversight Subcommittee

State Rep. Jason Woolford (R-Howell) was appointed Chairman of the House Oversight Subcommittee on State and Local Assistance Programs. Woolford is one of only two first-term representatives in the Michigan House to receive a chairmanship position. The State and Local Assistance Programs Oversight Subcommittee will be responsible for investigating any potential wrongdoing within all governmental assistance programs and ensuring the programs are effectively and efficiently serving the people of Michigan.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to begin my service in the legislature by hitting the ground running,” Woolford said. “The people of Michigan can be certain that I will use the gavel to increase government accountability and cut waste of taxpayer dollars. I expect that the Oversight Committee will be very active and decisive.”

In addition to a Chairmanship, Woolford also received appointments to the House Committee on Families and Veterans, as a Marine Corps veteran himself, and the full House Oversight Committee. Earlier this term, the Michigan House voted to give the Oversight Committee blanket subpoena power, which marks the first time in recent history that a committee was given broad authority to issue subpoenas as opposed to on a case-by-case basis.

“This is the work I came to Lansing to do – to increase government’s transparency and accountability to the people,” Woolford said. “We began the term doing that by altering the House Rules, requiring budget earmarks to have specific sponsors and implementing greater transparency throughout the spending process. This project of making government more responsive and representative of the people will be continued throughout the term by the very meaningful work of the Oversight Committee. We will provide a check and balance to Governor Whitmer’s administration through supervision, investigation, and increasing exposure of the state government’s operations. I am eager to play a part in this initiative as both a member of the main committee and the presiding member of one of the subcommittees.”

 Cheryl Hauser

Cheryl Hauser, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on January 15th, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle fought with strength and grace during hospice care.

Cheryl devoted her career to the Fowlerville School District, where she served as a passionate advocate and champion for children with learning differences. She had a remarkable gift for identifying students' unique strengths and nurturing their confidence, impacting countless young lives.

Beyond her professional life, Cheryl’s greatest joy came from her family. She cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

Cheryl will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering love will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
