Louie F. Schneider, Jr.
Louie F. Schneider, Jr. of Fowlerville, Michigan, signed off for duty a final time on May 20, 2019.  He was 89 years old.
He was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on February 24th, 1930 to Louis and Irma (Keller) Schneider.  He is survived by his brother Nuel (Ardis) Schneider and sister, Mary Engel.  Louie attended University High School and excelled at athletics.  A true patriot, he joined the Merchant Marines at age 15 and at 16 served in both the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Guard.  On his 18th birthday in 1948, he joined his first love, the United States Marine Corps.  Louie served his country faithfully for 21 years, including two tours in the Vietnam War, before retiring as a First Lieutenant in 1968.
On September 6th, 1950, he married Janie Margaret Whitworth.  They were blessed with two children, Dean (Sherry) Schneider and Glenda Schneider Vaughn who survive him.  They enjoyed a wonderful 33 years together before Janie’s passing.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Louie served as a police officer in Chelsea, Michigan from 1968 to 1971, and as the Chief of Police for the cities of Villa Rica, Dallas, and Lawrenceville, Georgia from 1973 to 1981.
In 1983, Louie married Mary Maloney.  They shared 36 years of marriage before Mary’s passing early in 2019.  He is survived by his stepchildren, Kathleen (Tom) Kane, Susan Brennan, Michael (Tracy) Maloney, Maureen Maloney, Bridget Moore, Patty (Kevin) Opuda, Sharon Robertson and Brian Maloney. He was preceded in death by Danny Maloney and Peggy Maloney.
There is no man that embodied duty and honor like Louie.  He lived his life in total dedication to his family, God and country.  His charm and grace could only be eclipsed by his ability to break into song or make you laugh.  Our lives are forever changed by the man, the myth, the legend.
There is no doubt that you, reader, may have fallen under Louie’s spell.  He was the beloved patriarch and fearless leader of his two children, ten step-children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  His booming voice could be heard cheering on every sideline, telling stories at every meal, and still, in these quiet moments, singing “The Halls of Montezuma” in our hearts.  He was a living hero, our own tall tale, and the one we will never forget.
Semper Fi, Sir, and farewell.  We know that you have taken your place in Heaven, where the streets are guarded by our favorite Marine.
Visitation was held on Thursday, May 23, 2019, 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00pm at Herrmann Funeral Home in Fowlerville.  Funeral Mass took place on Friday, May 24, 2019, 10:30am at St. Agnes Catholic Church.  Arrangements by Herrmann Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be expressed at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com
